Is this true?
« on: February 04, 2006, 12:19:33 PM »
Is it true that the action cover M80 is the same exact cover that's on the Delta 1 from Track?  The M80 and the GOO LS are the same exact covers just different names?

How many of columbia's covers are used on the Track balls?  Now i'm going to start looking at some past releases.  I wonder if the animal cover stock"mega fang" is on any of columbia's balls.

How many other Columbia balls use Track covers or vice versa.  I would like to know if the Animals mega fang cover is on a columbia ball?

When the Rule and Bully came out, this was brought up since Goo and M80 were both brand new, very strong solid reactives.  I remember one of the Track guys coming on here and saying that BASF showed them a few new, different resins.  Track chose one they called Goo and Columbia chose one they called M80.  Clearly they belong to the same technology generation, just as Superflex, Powerplus, Accu-tread, and PK18 do.  But Goo and M80 were different, each company has different formulas.

I don't believe it.  I feel the comapany's do use the same exact covers.

I feel that GOO and M80 are real close, just like GOO LS and M80^2 are real close.  Having talked to Del Warren, Shawn Morris and others about this they all claim they're different.  I believe they are.  However, the differences may be so minute that we (the bowling public) may not be able to tell much- if any-
of a difference.

Other similiarites:
SuperFlex = PowerPlus

Just my opinion, your mileage and beliefs may vary...

One reason is that they want there to be more separation between companies.  Goo is only available on Track balls, so if you really like Goo, you'll have to buy Track.  It's an exclusivity thing.

But I don't buy it.  Columbia already uses Superflex on AMF balls.  They say as much.  If SF and PP are the same, wouldn't they come up with another name when it's on an AMF ball?  And given that, why bother coming up with new names for Goo/M80 if they're the same anyway?

B/C then they would be admitting there is no difference and therefore there should be no reason that one is better suited for a certain condition than the other, and hence less sales.  IF you knew you could buy one ball and cover the same conditions as another, would you buy it? not likely

One could easily argue that the distinction lies in the core if that really were the case.  Columbia doesn't have any strong asymmetrics right now, certainly not in their high-performance line.  Track does, almost exclusively.

I feel company's don't want you to know because they feel it could hurt sales.

Here is a good example.  I have not had good success with the GOO LS cover.  I didn't like the Delta 1 or the xception.  I couple of weeks ago I actually thought about buying the Columbia Action.  Now with what I have read on here about the possability of that ball having the GOO LS cover I wont touch that ball.  I wont take the chance because I would be wasting my money.

Now on the other hand it could benifit a company.  I loved the Tracks Animal.  The Animal has the mega fang particle cover.  If I knew that Columbia has a ball with the same cover but it's called something else then I would definetly buy one too see if I have the same results.  Columbia does have a mega tech particle I believe.  If this is the same cover that's on Tracks Animal I would try it out.

I do feel that they do interchange the covers.  I don't think it's a bad thing in my eyes that they do this.  I just would like to know which ones are the same.
