How strong is the Action Packed?
« on: May 04, 2006, 03:29:55 AM »
Hey all, I am exploring the world of other ball companies at the current time. I mainly throw all Track, but recently picked up a NIB Action Packed. I need to know how strong this ball is and how it compares to some of Track's stuff. I don't want to drill this ball and have an overlap in my arsenal. My complete ball list is in my profile. Get back to me with how strong it is and any suggestions for drilling.

Thanks in advance
Ryan

rock77,

I had the AP when it first was released and to me the ball in box finish is not that strong. I have mine drilled 4x4 with no weight hole. I did see an improvement as far as hook when I took the cover to 1000 abralon.

I would highly recommend NOT drilling this ball weak.. I would drill it strong and plan on using it for medium oil in box finish and thats about it..

As far as comparing it to a Track ball, I can't help you there as I don't drill up much Track stuff..

good luck with it..

I also have a NIB Action Packed sitting here.  It has a 2" pin and I was thinking either label leverage or stacked leverage.  I think I will drill it and my NIB Action stacked leverage to compliment my EPX T1 which is also drilled stacked leverage.  With my speed, I really enjoy the midlane and backend that a stacked leverage drilling provides for me.

Yes, there is enough oil and no, the ball is not rolling-out.
Is that your answer to everything in life?

One of the guys at one of the pro shops i went to said that the AP is very comparable to the DOOM Raw Hammer.  In fact, he said the reason why Hammer sells the Doom for so cheap is because they knew it would give them the advantage over the AP.  The AP might be able to handle carry down more in OOB condition, but the Doom has a very tweakable cover.

But, like the previous guy said, DO NOT drill either of these balls weak.  I have mine label leverage and it doesnt really give a good hook unless you are bowling down and in.  IF you wanna swing it out and in, give it a good strong drill.

Ball is REALLY strong, one of the strongest pearls i ever rolled... i would drill it 1:30 label, stacked lets it set up a little too early
--------------------
Currently in the bag:

EPX-T1 - Stacked Leverage - Heavy oil
Action - Stacked Leverage - Heavy to Medium
Inferno - 1:30 Label - Medium
Smoking Inferno - 11:00 drill - Medium to Dry
White Dot - Spare ball

Hi Group,
Well, I just got the Action Packed from Billy Ray the one he was selling last week

Anyway, I'm not sure how I'm gonna have it drilled but it will be drilled aggressive. I'll be going to Las Vegas for sweeps in two weeks so I'm gonna use it there.

Everything that I have read about this ball has been really great so I am very excited about throwing this!

here's the specs on the ball ~ 16lbs 1oz ~ TW 1 3/4 ~ Pin 1.5-2"

I'm averaging around 207 at this point

 Heres my gear:

1) Scorchin Inferno
2) Colbalt Bomb (frigg'n awesome ball)
3) The One
4) Full Throttle (spare ball)
5) Action Packed (my new baby )

Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

Agreed.....on a medium condition this ball is awesome. Clean through the heads and the backend does NOT quit. I wouldn't use it on any significant carry-down but with the proper drill on the right condition this ball is incredible.

If I had to name a ball that the actions are like, I would have to say they are close to what TRACKS Normal Rule and xception are. The normal action is ment to be a stronger more overall reaction on the lane like the RUlE was but the action is stronger because of the better core to coverstock match. The action packed is alot like the xception it is ment to go longer then the action and backend harder. This is also ment to be used on say fresher mid condition. I dont know if what the guy above said is true about the doom raw hammer. I know a few guys who roll it and I Bowl with two of them alot. I even do the cover prep on the one guys. I had his to 600 the one time and he couldnt use it on a mid shot, it just skided to far and started to late. I thought maybe it rolled out but, when I put him on a more oil pair it over slid again. I took the surface back up to about 1500 put him on a lane that wast oiled much with just a little oil and it worked great. The doom raw hammer is a light oil ball with alot of backend. The guys who roll it and have it flip hard have alot of hand and they have alot of dry backend almost have the distance of the lane. If you put the action pack on that it will start up to fast and you will more then likely go left of the head pin or in the left gutter (Said in retrospect of you being right handed). So I would say that you can excpect this to be a ball to fall right under your normal action. I would say right when the action starts to react hard off the heads. Make a swich the AP right before the oil gets to far down the lane.

Ball's pretty nice, even with a Mild layout. I did a 5¼ x 4, pin Hi (Over the left part of Ring). 60 degrees. Stable and heavy rolling, hits hard. Need some outside dry of course and not a ton of carrydown with this drilling. Should be great on any house shot. Had an 803 and 300 about 3 weeks ago with it.

This ball has a giant back end! But it is not for fresh heavy oil. It's great for when the midlane is spotty or light.  The back end is powerful and the hit is huge.
