Title: Let me try this a different way
Post by: thedjs on February 23, 2011, 08:54:42 AM
I have an Arch Rival which is my oil ball.  (all the oil I see around here)  My next ball is a Cool Noize.  Both of these are drilled with the pin about 4 1/2" from my pap and the pin is just right of the ring finger.  I need another ball under the Cool Noize for drier conditions so that I don't have to make a big move left.  Presently I am using a Track 505A but I really don't match well with this ball.  What would be a good choice for this spot in my arsenal?  I would like to stay in the Columbia, Track or Hammer lines if possible.  Have considered the Freeze but I'm afraid it might be too much of a real dry lane ball.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe a Freeze?  I mean for the money you can't possibly go wrong.  I know the ball is slightly stronger than advertised... but I think with the right drilling and surface prep you'd be in business.

For what its worth, I use a Freeze drilled 5 1/2 pin to PAP with the CG kicked into my palm and it gives me a great read on medium light.  So much in fact that I picked up two more of these bad boys and am considering drilling one stronger and sanding it for a more predictable motion downlane and using it as my benchmark ball.

Red Backlash is great for dry/fried conditions!

See if you can find a sharp noize. It's pearl so it will give you more length than a cool, but it wouldn't be as far down the scale as a backlash. If not, the best choice would be a midnight vibe. Second best would be a freeze.

I'd personally suggest the red/black backlash or the midnight vibe...  The freeze maybe a little to snappy on the back to be considered a true dry lane ball.
