I have had the opportunity to drill a couple Apogee's over the past week and I am very impressed with this new release on THS.
With a 5x3 drill, the Apogee gets down the lane extremely well and shows a strong backend reaction. What makes this ball impressive, is it does not get skid/flippy when encountering dry boards, the transistion was smooth and consistent.
When the shot broke down, I was able to play very deep and still gain a solid entry to the pocket. Carrying the ten-pin was not an issue when playing deep and the ball retained sufficient energy to turn the corner.
When throwing a second Apogee with a 4x4 drill, you would think this was a completely different ball. This ball read the mid-lane extremely well, rolled up a little earlier and the backend reaction was very strong.
The OOB is 600 grit / polished, which is relatively aggressive. When taking this ball to 1000 then 2000 degree polish, I was able to get 4-6 inches further down the lane (tape marker), while the backend reaction increased with the coverstock adjustment.
In comparision to the current Columbia300 product line, the Apogee gives the bowler a different look, a smoother transisitioning, heavy rolling ball to compliment the Action Max, Action, and Wrath series balls.
After approximately 30 games, I am confident that Columbia300 has hit a home-run with the Apogee. This is one ball that should be in your bag, two of them will be in mine.
