Pearl ball below the Sideswipe solid
« on: April 25, 2017, 11:36:06 AM »
I have the Sideswipe solid and plan to change the surface to 500/2000 and use it for heavier conditions.  What would be a good pearl ball to fit under this?  Looking at the Hammer Rebel pearl, Track Kinetic Emerald and the GB-2 Phenom pearl as possibilities.  The Columbia Impulse  and Hammer Phobia are possibilities but they may be stronger than what I'm looking for and too close to the Sideswipe.

I hope to do something this week or next so I could really use some advice.

Thanks in advance.

Umm the Side Swipe?

My vote would go to the Side Swipe or Kinetic Emerald

I love the SideSwipe Solid and I have all the balls you mentioned before... For me the step down for the SS Solid is the Phobia, which can help when you need to move inside as well. Then after that, would recommend the Kinetic & then the Rebel Pearl to provide the length needed.... OR you can go with the Sideswipe Pearl which is about 3-4 boards overall weaker than the SS Solid.

Another good option would be the Track Tundra to give you length with smooth motion down the lane. Hope this helps your search...

Thanks Michael.  It's great to hear from someone who has used all these balls.  You made my decision a lot easier.

The Phobia is about the same strength wise as the Sideswipe solid
the sideswipe pearl is definitely a step down piece, but I find that ball is sort of lazy downlane, meaning its super controllable downlane on a sport pattern.
The Kinetic emerald is a special piece with a unique roll, easy clean length, corners hard, but controllable.
the GB2 phenom pearl is a strong pearl cover, very arcing motion.
I felt it was to responsive a cover for me, but i have a bunch of hand and don't really need cover help, so for me it was a conditional piece
