I've lost 3 columbia balls in 2 years. One was NuLine/Gaunlet which I think C300 poured, an Apogee and a Rock. The Apogee was on the carpeted floor, the other 2 were sitting on ball racks. All 3 balls developed a monster crack all away around the ball. All were in a climate controlled area and never abused.

Balls never completely cure, so they are constantly changing. Over time this can lead to cracking...this happens every manufacturer's balls.

Johns811, I agree with Tim. However, another point is are you using finger inserts, thumb insert. Those items alone cause cracking across the bridge and also the superglue that is used weakens the cover of the ball to a degree.
Also the ball drilling can come into question, if the driller is not using sharp drill bits especially on today's equipmet the vibration on the ball sitting in the drill press will cause issues with the cover. Just my two cents.

To each their own

I have seen balls from every factory crack like the ones johns811 described.

I and a buddie have had multiple balls just sitting new on a shelf and not even drilled yet split all the way around. It is not exclusive to one brand either

Cracking is not limited to just C300. I've had 3 Track Synergy Pearl's crack on me way back in the day, problem with the 1st few month's in the coverstock. Track replaced all 3 with until they figured out what was up on the coverstock.
I've had 2 Brunswick's crack on me. Vapor Zone and a BVP Punisher. Both were over 3 year's old no warranty.
I've also had 1 Storm crack on me, in my hand's on the approach in the 8th frame with the front 7!! It was a Storm Attitude Shift, my favorite ball.
I don't care how much some of you people on here might think "oh my (brand) ball won't crack because it's not such and such company", get over your denial because it could happen to you at any time.

I respectfully disagree. I've thrown Brunswick, Track, MoRich, Roto-Grip, Storm, AMF, Visionary, Faball, Hammer, and Ebonite equipment over the years and NEVER had any of them crack on me. The two balls that did crack on me were the Total Chaos and the Bully both made by Columbia 300. Haven't owned a C300 ball since.

Check it out and add me if you want!
"over the years" Track balls were made by Columbia, and "over the years" I do believe some Morich balls were also made by Columbia...
And over some recent years, Columbia, Track, Hammer and Ebonite balls have all been made by the same people...

My Resurgance cracked two years ago, the new is still going good, one of the best hitting balls I've ever had. 210 average.
-
My first cracked balls (2) were both the original Piranhas. (cracked all the way round (This was long time ago) Last week My Triple X (Storm) cracked the same way. This was all store in a room with ball racks. I have not used the XXX for a long time, maybe the inside core dried up because of not being used, that being said, my other ones are all in good shape still.

Have you read ANY of the above replies?
No, it's not common for any manufacturer's balls to crack. FYI Columbia balls are not made in San Antonio, TX any more. They're made in Hopkinsville, KY.
