Need help with my arsenal
« on: July 31, 2013, 03:13:25 AM »
Hi,

I have following lineup now:

Oath, World Beater, Vow, Violent Eruption, Freeze hybrid and Spare.

I'm medium speed player, revs 250 and I want to buy two new balls before new season begins.

I struggle on long patters (47 feet) as my Oath and World Beater go almost straight. So I thought about enigma to be able to see more hook on longer patters. What do you think about this choice?

And I want to have a good substitution for my violent eruption. I simply love this ball. What ball would you recommend to be more or less similar to this ball?

Thanks.

First, welcome aboard here.

To answer your question about the Violent Eruption first, you could look at the Mass Eruption as a compliment.  Same core, hybrid New Era cover instead of the New Era pearl on the Violent.  You'll get a slightly earlier read in the mids but won't get the overreaction you can find sometimes with pearl covers on the back.  If you want a solid cover, the Disruption is the best choice.  Also, the same core as the Eruption series, and uses a solid version of the New Era cover.  at would make a great 1-2 combo.  Use the Mass Eruption or Disruption when you have a little more volume up front and as the lane transitions, switch to the Violent Eruption.

As for long patterns, I'm surprised that the World Beater isn't getting the job done, because it was one of the strongest balls that Columbia 300 offered just a few years ago.    If you haven't had a resurface/bake done on the ball, you may want to give that a shot first as that cover does soak up oil.

If you do go with a new ball, the Enigma is one option and it would work.  However, you may find the Antics could fit your game better.  It's a strong solid cover but tends to be a little cleaner up front while giving a strong move in back.  It also works well when polished.

tommy,

As for Distruption and Mass Eruption I know that these are great balls, but my coach encourages me to try Storm, so I thought that the old Hyroad coulb be the one to go with my violent eruption?:)

As for world beater, I know that it is a strong ball but maybe my drilling is not to strong (50x3 1/2x 30), maybe my revs are not so high, maybe my pap changed, because this ball was drilled when a was novice bowler, but in general I want a little more hook:) I'll look at the antics but voice inside me tells that I want enigma more:) So in general I want very strong ball which compliments heavy conditions and my not so high revs:) Are you saying that Antics would be stronger than enigma on heavy oil conditions?

I would say Enigma all day for a heavy oil ball.. I to am a speed dominate player and the Enigma seems to always find a way to hook for me.
And the Disruption is great ball for those that liked the Violent.. Little cleaner through the front and a little more on the back end.. Great stuff!

The Hy-Road could work for you.  It's a proven hybrid that is versatile on medium and medium-heavy conditions.  I own one of those and I generally use it as my benchmark ball.

The Enigma and Antics will be close.  Big difference with the Antics will be the diff/core numbers and the ball will be a little cleaner up front.

For the heavy oil I would go with the Enigma, ball has not done myself any wrong with that use.  My favorite for heavy oil is a pin down with a low X hole and sanded to 800 grit, only comes out for real heavy shots.  Another ball I would look into is the Smackdown.  If you want a subsititute for the Violent, why not just get another Violent and drill it a little different?
