Rival first impressions
« on: November 14, 2007, 07:15:12 AM »
I traded my Raid for a Rival and all I can say so far is wow. I love the controlability I get with this ball. It is strong, but it doesnt seem to ever over hook. I think this may soon become my go to ball.

First game missed on the first ball due to not thinking it would be as strong as it is. Moved right 4 boards and left a ten moved back right one more and struck til second ball of tenth for a 267. Second game carrydown left me a couple tens before I adjusted and went 223. Then put it away.

I am really surprised by this ball so far I heard it was a good ball but its even better than expected.

Another satisfied customer, The new stuff Columbia has come out with is simply amazing.

The first four balls that were introduced were so complimentary to each other as an arsenal, that I am waiting and excited for the Momentum to hit the market.

Just an update....After having my Rival for more than a week now I am now even more impressed with it. I went to my Tuesday league which is a heavy oiled house shot and did not have the clean backends like it normally does. It wasn't quite enough ball until around the 4th frame of the first game as it was consistently coming in flat and either I was getting in high enough I would strike or it would be a ten pin. Since I had new ball syndrome I kept throwing it and once they opened up a slight bit I threw 4 out of the last 6 and the 2 that didn't were me. I ended up only shooting a 626 but I bombed the last game and couldn't strike.

Then took it to my Wednesday league which is a drier walled up shot and it was way too much ball so didn't throw it. I probably could have found something but I threw my normal line with it when the lanes are a touch drier and went brooklyn. Then moved 5 and 2 left and went through the nose so put it away.

Overall, though haveing open bowled with it a fair amount and seeing it on fresh oil I am very impressed still. It can't handle a ton of oil (I'm sure it could if you have a lot of hand). I am most impressed with how it responds to hand position and speed changes. It responds very well and will give a very consistent roll and very rarely leaves the corner pins. Overall it is probably my 2nd favorite ball in my bag behind my TNV.
