How should I drill the Big Bully
« on: October 26, 2004, 04:50:26 AM »
I'm medium to fast speed, right handed, tweener, medium to high rev.  The ball is 16.1 oz, 3.5 oz top weight, 3" pin.  Here's a few pics of the ball and some of my other equipment.  Wood Lanes with Heavy oil (bought it for the first game.  Ultimate has been working well as my 2nd game ball, with either Zone or XXX for 3rd game).

Hope this works.. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2758270093&code=12594346&mode=invite&cmp=EMC-AlbumInvite

Took it over to Next Level ProShop in Union City, ended up getting it drilled with pin right of ring.

This ball should be illegal.

Left there and went out to my normal house (where I average 202) at about 9:30PM, and was given a pair that had been just used for league play.  Stood with feet between the 4th and 5th dots (about board 27), and got the ball out over the 15 to about 7.  It had a nice arcing hook back into the pocket, that seemed to me uneffected by carrydown.  Through 6 games with the ball in its factory condition (I'd thrown a few practice shots while at the shop to get accustomed to the drill).  The following resulted: 209(1 open) - 214(1 open) - 234 - 189(2 opens) - 259 - 265 = 1370 (228, 6-game average).

Ball reacted accordingly, holding tight if I pulled it, and turning back if I pushed it out too far.  I love it.

I dulled my big bully up just a tad and I love the litle bit of extra snap I am getting now.. It is a great ball. Its at least 5-7  boards stronger then the regular Bully when thrown on comparable lane conditions..

hellodjhjr,

If you took it over to Next Level, leave it up to Lonce. He knows what he is doing. (I think you should have) Throw(n) a few balls with your Ultimate, show him its drilling and let him make a suggestion or two.

I actually bought the UI from, and had it drilled by Lonce.  It was the first ball that he'd drilled for me,  In the beginning, the ball wasn't reacting like it should have.  Just took some breaking in and getting used to I guess (I had to move left and play a much wider line than what I'd been used to), as I'm now able to throw the ball (and get it to hook) a lot better.  I bought the BB as more of a first game ball for when the oil is heaviest, I've noticed that the UI worked best for me in my 2 leagues when taken out later in the day.

I'm about to head back out, mainly to make sure last night wasn't a fluke .  I'll throw the UI in a few games as well, then compare results

Strider,

Yes, slightly dulling the ball made it a few boards stronger on the backend..

Jim I think me and strider are on the same page here but basic ball reaction tells us that dulling the ball will then cause more friction on the lane sooner therefore rolling earlier not later, technically speaking dulling a ball makes it grab earlier and polishing a ball would give more "snap".  I along with strider don't see how even slightly dulling a ball could cause more "snap."

I should just quit bowling, oh wait I already tried that.

Ok, then I guess I was wrong in my wording.. the ball hooked more when dulled and I will leave it at that, sorry for the confusion.. The lanes I bowl on are synthetic..

I would like to see the difference between this and the UI as well. Please let me know the diff in reaction and how many boards the BB outhooks the UI.

What type of conditions do you all suggest for this ball.

I need a new heavy oil killer. I was looking at the big bully. So..??
