EPX - T1
« on: November 03, 2007, 01:13:30 PM »
What is the story about this ball? I have a friend who unfortunatly has had
two of these balls literaly dissintigrate during league play. One in the under ground ball return and the other down in the pit. Neither ball had any sign of machine damage.
He thinks the polymer core around the wgt. block is too soft causing the shell
to flex too much.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

Did he ever clean the ball the recommended way?  Hot water baths or the CPR that Columbia had towards the end were the best ways to take care of it.

Thanks, but I have know knowledge of his cleaning procedures.
I do know that he is a regional tour player and a ball driller at a Pa. Pro Shop.

Hopefully he never used acetone as a cleaning agent then... I bet the epoxy coverstock didn't take to nicely to that sort of cleaning regimen.

The EPX-T1 is a truly special ball. While I heard they cracked and needed excessive maintenance, I decided to get one anyway.

I was told it was a problem with coverstock not curing properly and the rushed R&D that caused so many flaws.

Mine held up incredibly from January until August, that was when I stopped using after my 300 game.

The ball was easy to clean, the color was an indicator of how much oil it had soaked up. Just soaked it in a bucket of hot tap water. Of course the hook potential decreased over time, but the performance was second to none.

This ball got me my first 300, I absolutely love it.

I have an EPX also and it hooks like no other.  I boil water and then soak the ball in that and have been doing so for the past 6 months or so, and boiling it once a week and have never had any problems with it cracking or breaking.  I love this ball!

I seen one come into the shop the other day. The guy never cleaned it and he has had this one sence the day it was release. It is a first batcher, and his is going strong. He says he wont clean it because it is the best dry lane ball the way his is. This thing was filled with oil, I had my arm on it while I was talking to him. When I lifted my arm it was soaked in oil. The heat from my body was enough to bring oil out. The spot dead went from the normal purple color to the oil filled color after I lifted my arm. It was funny, I asked him if he knew how to clean it. He said yes and it wasnt going to happen, and we laughed together when he said that.

I still think that this ball would have been a even stronger and maybe better ball if they went with a stronger core. Something Asymetrical (strong MB, think Apogee core), or even just something like the bully core.

the ball itself I thought was amazing hooked like nothing before or since, Mine also cracked a little around the ring finger, I have never seen one fall apart completley though on a Prardigm Passion.

Can I as k a question though? What on earth did he need a ball like that in league for?

Mainzer,
Because our house shot was 42' heavy oil, 5+ units outside. (We're the low scoring house in our area.) That was when the first EPX broke. That was last season.
The second one was on the Scorpion pattern in our PBA EXP. League this season.
I assume he likes the ball like others like theirs. He had three. One left.
Anyone know where he might find an EPX--A1?
