Control, Control, Control!! That pretty much sums up what I think of this ball. I am a speed dominant bowler with a 4 1/4 right and 1/4 up PAP, 430 rev rate, and around 16.5 mph. average ball speed. I drilled the Pure Swing with a 45 x 4 x 35 dual angle lay out with no surface alterations so it is still at 1000 polished. My initial expectations were going to be 50 feet and a sharp turn on the backend.
This is the first Columbia 300 ball I have thrown in years, so I wasn''t expecting anything spectacular. Needless, I was surprised with the smooth transition and the low response to friction the Pure Swing had. I bowled a set on DBA-IQ lane surface with 42 feet of oil in my comfort zone ( 15 to 7 ) and absolutely lived in the pocket for four games, no exaggeration. I left my fair share of 10 pins but for the most part it was 10 back with the occasional messenger off the wall. At one point I was 15 strikes in before having to run back to my pro shop to assist a customer.
Apples to apples, I''d like to compare the Pure Swing to the Original Shift from Storm. Neither ball for me with similar layouts made the hockey stick, check mark, bank shot move that I''m used to seeing with Pearl coverstocks.
Matched up to a Bedlam I drilled up 45 x 4 1/2 x 45 at box finish, the Pure Swing reads 3-4 feet sooner and is less angular than the Bedlam. I am excited to see what this ball will do on some the tougher patterns and some of the regional patterns I''ll be seeing this year!
