U-Turn vs Backyard Bully vs Ti Pearl
« on: October 06, 2005, 05:43:44 AM »

Would someone please tell me how these three balls compare?  From the info. in the Columbia site, the Backyard is much stronger than the other two.  Is this true?

Any help would be appreciated.

I can only speak on the Backyard Bully and the U-Turn Pearl. Even though they are drilled up different, the Backyard Bully has a sharp move to the pocket and will out hook the U-Turn by 3-5 boards. My BYB is real clean through the heads and midlane and makes a drastic left move. My UTP is clean through the heads and reads the midlanes well. Don't get me wrong the UTP makes a nice move to the pocket but just not as sharp and as much as the BYB. I love both balls but the UTP is the first out of the bag.........

What style bowler are you Big Columbia?  Where do you prefer to play?  I have a Uturn Pearl as well and I'm starting to understand why it gets pretty good reviews so far.  Where do you most like to play with this ball?  (Oh, I'll also agree that the move the UTP makes isn't sharp, but it is hard and continuous.)

The UTP is a good Med to Dry lane ball. Hits hard.
As long as you find friction the ball will respond.
The Backyard does snap harder than the UTP. I had the
BYB a while ago. That ball hated oil. It just skid for
days. On the Bully series balls since i had all 3 before, keep the
layouts very simple. The ball reads better when you do.
The Messenger Ti Pearl is probably under the U-Turn i am guessing.
It has that tradiditon light bulb core. Goes long and flips hard.
Great on med conditons or short oil patterns.

I like to play around 10 to 4 with a fairly good amount of speed. But really it's about what the house will give me.

Hmmm...I just realized.....which Ti Pearl are you talking about?  The Brown/Gold or the b/s/p?  I never had a b/s/p, but from what I heard, it was pretty sharp.  I did have a Brown/Gold and it wasn't as sharp as the b/s/p looked.

When it first came out, COlumbia said the B/S/P coverstock was supposed to be a "little" grabbier than the Black/Gold and the core was supposed to be a "little" lower in RG and a "little" higher in RG differential.
