Quick question on the Freeze
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:46:10 AM »
Since the Freeze has a "modified" messenger core, would it be similar to the old black and gold Ti Messenger Pearl in it's reaction?

Thanks.

For whatever it's worth,
I suspect that for some people and some drillings the balls will be similar.
Being that the Freeze uses a much newer coverstock than the Messengers, I believe that should really change the basic Freeze reaction compared to the Black & Gold.
Aside, my BSP Messenger pearl also handles today's medium-light patterns but in a much smoother way than the Freeze. The BSP had a lower RG than the Black/Gold and lower than the Freezez.

The Freeze also has a larger differential but all 3 still handle today's medium-light oil patterns.

The Freeze's basic surface is 4000 grit + polish. The Messenger's were around 2000 grit + polish. That indicates the Freeze cover is slightly stronger than Super-Flex, in general.

Interesting question, though. Hope this helps.

Just bought purple/orange Freeze. Threw a few practice games w/it after drilling. Has awsome backend reaction and hitting power for a ball of its pricepoint. Probabally going to be my go-to ball when lanes are dry.

Absolutely. I have the Black/Silver Freeze and it is easily my favorite ball once the tracks start drying up and I can move inside and bounce it off there. The ball has performed exceedingly well on harder patterns as they transition and start breaking down. Very solid ball for the price. It is underestimated.

Having experimented with a Freeze drilled full strength for the last 3 weeks, I'd have to say that the coverstock is much stronger than the ones on the pearl Messengers. I was hoping it would be for medium-light to medium oil,but with the stock cover and the strong drilling I chose it was, for me, strictlty for true medium oil. I had to modify the cover significantly to get it cover medium-light oil.

So unless you have   higher than average ball speed or less than average revs, drill this ball moderately weak for lighter than medium oil.

One good thing is that it can be used fairly deeply even though I would never call its breakpoint skid/flip. It always seems to be a hard arc and it is fairly continuous if you have any amount of hand.

Overall, I'd say it's one of the strongest balls currently made at its price point.
