Ransom Demand on Shark
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:57:52 PM »
Scored myself a Ransom Demand today for cheap.. I got 4 weeks of Shark coming up  so I was wondering if anybody here has used the RD on the Shark with success? If so, what surface or layout did you use?

The Ransom Demand is not strong enough in my opinion. im @ 450rpm, 18mph and this is a ball i use on medium patterns playing to the right it is drilled 35 x 5 x 70 with a p3 hole. putting the pin under my middle finger.

12 months ago the RD got the best reviews, was the strongest ball, and was supposed to be the next best thing. Now, it's not strong enough for the Shark pattern? I don't buy that. Personally, the last time I bowled on Shark, I used a pin down Nomad Solid and it was plenty ball.

Logan, I think the RD is plenty ball for what you need. I don't know your style, revs, etc., nor the surface you will be on, but I would adjust the surface if needed after your first session.

@djones -> I wrote my opinion and i dont belive it is strong enough in the midlane, the ball is easy to read and handle surface very well even at 500 the carry is still above average and wont bleed of energy to soon..

Soooo again i dont think this is ball enough but you can give it some surface.. Maybe you have a heavy hand or slow ball speed. Is the ball plugged for a complete redrill or do you use the existing layout? and what is the layout?

Best bet would be a dt layout to make it soon enough

The Nomad solid with a medium diff and a higher RG, yeah i can see that working on shark..

Here's Parker Bohn using a C-System 3.5 on all 5 animal patterns:

If you're skilled enough, you can find the pocket with any ball.  It does not have to be the strongest ball in the world.  Getting good carry/pin action however, is another story...

My rev rate is around 380 to 400 and my speed is around 16 mph.. I also got a Dark Encounter to so if the RD doesn't work, I can just use the DE.. Both are brand new balls..

RD is drilled pin above ring finger which puts my pin to pap at 5 inches
DE is drilled pin under ring finger which puts my pin to pap at 4.5 inches

Both are OOB surface..

I also have the Dark Encounter. The Ransom Demand would be a good step down from the DE.

The Ransom is great as a step down from stronger balls before going to polish, similar to the 250k from ebonite and the infection from Hammer.
