Recommendation Needed: Drive or Super Trooper?
« on: October 24, 2004, 12:01:57 PM »
Hi, I'm posting this looking for a few recommendations on a good medium-dry lane ball.  Currently I'm carrying a Zone Classic (usually first ball out of bag, I throw from about 11 out to 5 utilizing the backend snap as the ball hits the pocket), Ultimate Inferno (wasn't drilled too aggressive, I take this out once the oil in the middle of the lane gets moved around by other bowlers... usually 2nd game or so), and a XXX Factor (really lost some of its hook, so works sorta well when the other balls are coming brooklyn too often).  I bowl in two leagues during the week, Friday Night and Sunday Afternoon.  Fridays I can get by without having to worry about the lanes breaking down too much, but on Sunday it's a crazy transition from 1st to 3rd games.  Heavy oil to start, but by the end of the night nearly everyone on the pair is overhooking.  I've seen a few positive comments about the Drive, but was told by a teammate of the Super Trooper.

I bowl on wood lanes, and am not real certain of the oil pattern that the house uses.  Which of these, or maybe a different ball, should I look into purchasing.

hey whats going on.... i have two super troopers and earlier this week got a drive..... the super trooper is a perfect ball for hardcore breakdown expecially the way you are describing it.... it has the versatile superflex cover which is always a good thing.... the Drvie has teh accelerator cover which reacts more powerfully to dry... so the drive will hook a little more and my best comparison to a drive would be a brunswick inferno.... its a very good ball.... but it seems u have aenough high line stuff in ur bag between the classic zone ultimate and xxx..... i think a super trooper would a good solution to your problem.... but dont put a milddrill on it because it will be very mild... probably a medium aggressive drill would be perfect depending on your ball speed.... i have one drilled pin up above my bridge and teh cg kicked about 1 1/2 inches.... this one rolls down the lane nad has a little pop in the backend... then i have another one just labelled and i have seen man like this and its a smooth continuous roll down the lane.... probably what you are looking for... i would suggest the super trooper with about a 3 inch pin and label it.... the drive would be a little too agressive for what your looking for i think because it has the alter ego core with the full throttle cover basically.... super trooper has superflex and the rock on core Without the flip blocks.... making it smooth down the lane with some hard hitting power....
