Rock On Limited Edition
« on: April 04, 2019, 08:26:44 PM »
Picked up a Rock On Limited Edition totally on a whim (very sweet price and liked core in my EPX) and had a few questions.  The blue Rock On looks like is a heavy particle load ball. Is the burgundy limited edition as well?  Does TEC death affect TEC2 as well?  Sounds like good maintenance should help prevent the ball dying.  Anybody have this ball back in the day or have an opinion of it?  Excited to see how it rolls.
Here today.  Gone tomorrow.

Found this thread back in the day.  Time to research the sport ball - https://www.ballreviews.com/columbia-300/rock-on-reaction-rev-and-rock-on-le/

(edit:  Looks like LE might have a lighter load of particle.  Probably good thing in the end).

This was one of the best house shot balls of all time. Polished, light load particle with a low RG, med diff core.

That should be a nice, smooth ball on a lot of medium-ish conditions.

TEC death should not be a problem at all with this ball. It is not designed for anything more than medium oil unless you hit it with a scotch brite pad. It gets down the lane and turns pretty hard for a particle ball.

My experience with TEC death is because pro shops were mainly using sand paper for resurfacing and that is what was a detriment to the TEC particles.  Using Scotch-Brite pads was significantly better at preserving the particle performance characteristics.

I had a few of these TEC balls .. they were really good but they will die.  It's unavoidable.  I had a Complete Chaos, Rock Star, and a Rock.  Scotchbrite helped not kill them, but the covers really soaked oil and once you started cutting on the cover, they were never really the same.

These were the lead up to Columbia 300 death, with the EPX being the final nail in the coffin.  The EPX was awesome until it literally disintegrated going down the lane.  I know I witnessed 2 come apart rolling down the lane and 1 come back on the ball return, stop, and split into 2.

Yep the edge to being late to the party is any drilled EPX still in one piece in 2019 probably wasn't in that first summer San Antonio batch.  Knock on wood with mine.  Sadly probably reason got this ball such a good price is its days as a non spare ball are numbered.  Oh well I do enjoy the C300 stuff pre Ebonite with the little hand cg logo lol.  Probably roll it a bit later today and will see what I got.  Someday might have to see what all the Messenger TI hoopla was about.  That ball is in a lot of people's top 10 and even top 5 all time lists.

If you really like that older C300 stuff, I have a 16# Boss Titanium solid that I drilled back in the day and hardly used it.  there is one small nick in it from a nail or something -- I'd part ways with it for shipping plus a few bucks if interested.

Cool will have to keep that in mind.  Have too many undrilled 16# stored as it is right now but thanks for the offer.

Decided to polish up the LE to get it closer to factory and glad I did so.  Ball was good for the heavier THS house in the area.  Pretty strong and angular indeed.  Didn't bowl as well as I like but can't fault the ball.  Not quite the read of some of the older Brunswick stuff been throwing lately but carry was very good especially early on.  Ball does seem to suck up its line and collect oil on the cover.  If had to guess great ball on fresh but will get punished if you stay with it too long.
