I really enjoyed rolling my C 300 Green messenger. I believe it had a solid cover stock and I believe it had a lower matte finish.   I also thought it was a medium RG ball but I am having trouble finding what the RG was on that ball.

I guess I'm looking for days gone by and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a relatively current ball that is really similar to the green messenger.

The Messenger had great length back in its day and made a huge recovery downlane for a mid priced ball. Although it's not the same type of finish, Specs would indicate that a Heat would do the trick.

Based simply on the stats, the Roto-Grip Hectic would seem to be the closest ball to it right now, however, I'm not sure about the coverstock.

The polished pearl Hectic would be similar to a 600 grit dull, solid Super-Flex Messenger?

I'd suggest a Boost Solid. Similar core numbers, but their S43 coverstock is the closest you;ll find today to Super-Flex.

That is why I said, I was not sure about the coverstock comparisons. I used to own two lime green Messengers, but i never used them in oob conditions. it was always with polish, so I never could remember how they came originally.

Generally speaking, I'd agree with your choice of the Boost, because that S43 coverstock  is probably closer to Super-Flex but that Boost core is a high-revving one so it is not a ball I'd consider.

I did not know the Hectic was a pearl.

While the Boost core is not identical to the Messenger, the differential is slightly larger. Most Messengers used a version of a light bulb core with a puck, which can be rather strong revving. Aside from surface changes, I think the Boost is closest overall to the Messenger series, one of the most popular set of balls ever made.

 I was looking for Cores with a puck on the bottom. Also, I was looking at the wreck-it.   The boost seems like a good comparable ball. I had originally used my lime green messenger at nationals and did pretty good with it but this was many years ago. I wonder if the boost is strong enough to read the lane. It seems like the RG matches and it will get down the lane.

Anybody have any thoughts on the wreck-it.

I, too, had a C300 Green Messenger, and I loved that ball.  Recently got back into ten-pin bowling (was a candlepin guy for a long time) and I had to replace that ball.  I didn't try and replace directly; but, I had the luxury of being able to go to a demo day and try several different balls and found some of the new stuff that I really liked, ended up purchasing one ball, then like 6 weeks later another.   I'd be interested in knowing what the OP ends up with, and how he thinks it compares.
