Hello. I'm just getting back into bowling after like 20 yrs.
 I need a ball for spares and or dry lanes. Back in the day I used the old Columbia 300 U dot limited. I loved that ball and was wondering what's available that's similar? Thx.

You could do something like a Twist or Tropical Surge.  Weak enough they wont hook much in oil unless very rev dominate and yet controllable enough to shoot at spares wih any decent amount of ball speed. 

I am new to bowling. I greatly appreciate your suggestions. However, do you think the Columbia 300 U is a bit heavy?

Talk to your local bowling pro shop operator.  They will know the local lane conditions and could offer you ball suggestions.

Not a fan of the dry lane ball as a spare ball strategy.  You might be looking for 2 separate balls.
I find the weaker resin balls can hook away from spares when the lanes get really toasty effecting your spare % - particularly if you bowl tournaments or on some really dry lanes.
Many of the bottom end entry level reactives and plastic with a core just don't hit the same way that something a step up like a Sneak Attack or Raw would.  Chat with your pro shop and see what they think.
