Similar ball motion as ambush
« on: December 10, 2009, 05:43:32 AM »
Hello BR

Im currently looking for a c300 ball that might be able to help me on shorter oilpatterns. i have previusly been using and ambush as my go to ball on shorter oil patterns. but because of a sponser deal this is not possible any more. have 2 diffrent ambush. both is drilled identical at 4½ from axis pin under pin angle of 75 and a cg angle of 45. one is in box with a x hole on axis and the other at 2000 with x hole below axis. i am a high rev high speed player but with a low axis of 3½. because of the low load particle in this ball it didnt jump of the pattern at the end but a nice arch. was wondering if maybe something like a freeze at 2000 with same drilling might be to jumpy? do you have any ideas maybe? have a resurgence with same drilling, but this is so early it hit flat on shorter patterns.

The Freeze is a great choice to fit what you are looking for. Your other option is the new Sharp Noize. It will be almost as long but stronger on the back

I think the sharp noize will be to flippy. im not looking for a flip type of motion. i am looking for a pretty smooth reation. not something that will jump off the spot and i think the sharp noize would do that

A friend has one, a Freeze, that is definitely not jumpy. His is drilled 3x3, with pin below the ring finger area, with a weight hole. I think this could be a good starting point for you on this ball. if, due to your release, it tend towards the jumpy side, a light roughing of the surface by hand with a grey nylon pad should smooth it out, simialr to the way the light load of particles in the Ambush did it for you.

I think that the very smooth reacting Ambush would be tough to come up with anything in the current Columbia line that would be similar without the tweaks prescribed by Charlest.

Quite a stretch really....suggestions he has made such as early full flare drillings and more surface may certainly tame any ball u use but I would say to create an small flare, gentle break any more without the aid of these pearl particles is the one area ball companies have moved away from!

Those pearl particles with mild cores were great for that.

I'm certain the drilling prescriptions given by Charlest for smoothing the reaction of any ball will have the desired effect of smoothness particularly on a house shot where standing position seems to be quite flexible.  I am just not so sure if they will allow one to play on the confined area allowed by sport shots.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS my thought is more the pin under drillings used by Wes Mallot ....to get small and late board coverage.

im surprised nobody mentioned a cool noize with a pretty weak drilling.  i have one and when we bowl on the shorter patterns in our sport shot league, its the only ball i bring out.  mine is 5 1/4 from pap, dual angle 55 x 40, and the cover has smoothed out from the 2000 oob finish, so it just rolls off the heavy friction in the back part of the lane.

I did mention the cool noize. but will try to drill a couple of cool noize' and a couple of freeze' and adjust cover to see how it works.
was thinking about something like 5½ from axis pin just left of middle finger. have this on one of my full swings and this is not angular but is very strong. and see how this works. any opinions on this?

Keep in mind you won't get as much flare with these balls as you do with the full swing with that layout. Unless you have a super-high rev rate and or bowl in the sahara desert, I would definitely keep the pins no more than 5" from your axis.

Okay thanks tim. i will look into that might stay with the layout of 4½ pin angle at 75 and cg at 40-45 and a weight hole to even it more
