Similar to the Hyde
« on: April 11, 2005, 09:31:58 AM »
I've been having good success with the Hyde and would like to add something a bit stronger but with the same reaction.  Or, since I understand the Hyde is to be discontinued, a good replacement for the Hyde.  How does the Drive and Overdrive compare?

Any help would be appreciated.

Overdrive is not the same at all. Um i would try to find another hyde if at all possible. Or in the event of that not being possible look for a bully maybe with a versatile layout.

I have not seen it and have not gotten great comparisons but I wonder how different a Shock is from a Hyde?

Well I want to say that in a way Mr. Evans who convinced me to stay with the Panic (and I love) is right.  Sort of!

The Hyde and Panic share a weight block that looks the same but apparently the density of the panic is less and the Hyde is greater because despite the same shape the Hyde has a lower rg and a higher diff!

The Hyde is in the 2.4X low rg area with diff about .40 and the Panic is a diff of about .24.

The Hyde can be played inside the Panic can be played on a small swing and carry unless the shot is very short.

The Hyde(I do own one drilled and another soon to be drilled(tonight maybe)) can really move pretty angularly on certain conditions the Panic with a lot less flare for me is some sort of very hard arc.  Also the Panic even sanded can never handle oil like the Hyde.

Two great balls, but different due to flare potential and the softer duller cover of the Hyde.

PS the core of Hyde was in teh Rock Star which many loved for league condtions.

Thanks guys.  I think my best bet is to find another Hyde and hold on to it until mime wears out.

By the way, if you want a good controllable ball for medium to medium heavy conditions, you can't go wrong with the Hyde.

An Ebonite V2 sanded would be an awesome "more aggressive" version of the Hyde.  While I was on staff with Columbia, I used a few Hyde's because I was able to get a similar look as that of my old V2's, which were so great at most of the regionals.  Low rg, med-high diff. solid reactives, but the V2 is definately more aggressive.
