skid flip ball
« on: December 10, 2012, 08:40:30 PM »
I need a ball for medium to light with a skid flip reaction. I have considered the cyclone and freeze pearl/hybrid. But I am open to all brands. Also, looking for input on the hammer cobalt vibe.
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta

get a low end rotogrip.  i throw a dark star and it can be very angular on medium or dry depending upon how many revs you can put on it.  i like it a lot as it is a step down from my skid flip storm reign

without knowing anything about your game its hard to tell but the storm fringe is pretty snappy. i have the cobalt vibe and its the most angular one i have thrown. i think all the balls mentioned would be a good choice though without knowing more

I'd 2nd the Cobalt Vibe and add the R/G Shatter, 900G Hook Pearl. & the Tropical Heat Pearl.

Some balls have the  potential to be skid/flip but need a drilling to do that: Freeze pearl, Cyclone and Misfit fit that category.

Keep in mind that the skid/flip reaction has a lot to do with the drilling and the bowler's release. Some people can't make any ball skid/flip and some people seem to make every ball skid/flip.

My wife's Roto Shatter and her 900G black eagle both seem to fit the skid/flip pattern you are looking for.

If you're looking for a skid-flip reaction, you can't beat the Violent Eruption.  It's the MOST skid-flippy ball I've ever thrown (strong pin-up with hole).  It is easily tamed/amped by changing the surface of the ball (sand to even out the arc, polish to give a more dynamic angle on the back).  Another great option is the Freeze Hybrid.  You can't beat the value of this ball.  It is very versatile with the Hybrid cover, meaning it transitions through the oil unlike any ball I've ever used.  When others are changing balls and zones, I'm still commanding the pocket with the Freeze Hybrid.  The local "Pros" and Pro-Shop operators can't keep this ball on their shelf it's so good.  Finally, the Vow will be available in February.  This was was easily the MVP of the WSOB in December.  There was a reason that this ball was used more than the Storm IQ Pearl...can't beat the incredible hitting power of this ball!!

I just purchased a Freeze Hybrid.  I was looking for something a bit weaker than my Violent Eruption that would still have some backend.  I'm looking forward to seeing what it does.
Hit the pocket and hope for the best

For me the Cobalt Vibe was much stronger than advertised, a good 3-5 boards stronger than my same drilled midnight vibe. I didnt care for it, it was ridiculous off the spot and I had a hard time controlling it. Sits in my closet now.......I went with a seismic Blackout, although strong it is smoother off the spot, my next ball for that position will be the Scream or Shout from Roto....Lower diff ball...

Without knowing your game , It's hard to say for sure. If your balls speed is slower or you have alot of hand in the ball. I would have to suggest the freeze hybrid. If your speed is faster or you don't have alot of hand. I would have to suggest the Violent eruption. I know columbia 300 as it's all I throw. I used to have a storm fringe until I gave it away. The fringe wasn't a bad ball , but it isn't as good as the Violent eruption in my opinion.
