So....has anyone dared to polish the epx1...
« on: September 05, 2005, 11:27:33 PM »
have refused to polish mine..but after seeing all the reviews so far....good and bad....am wondering about it???

I'm after all....while epoxy hooks more that resisn...they also used plastic or a plasterizer in the mix also...which is I think is the big reason for reviews coming out like they are...

so after much thought...if one polished the ball...it might actually be tremendous on shorter/lighter/dry condition....ie...the "plastic" would get it thru the heads...even if totally burnt....and epoxy would hit much better once getting down the lane....and will this is totally opposite of what columbia touted....am guessing this will end up being this balls "NICHE"...

all this hypothetical of course....bet you now though...some-one wins the million dollar tourney in reno w/an epoxy covered ball...as the posted shot is fairly light, short, sport shot...

here that "columbia"....Bill?...yes I have bashed the ball...the hammer hawg, track gp2...way out perofrm this ball on heavier conditions...

BUT sponser me and I'll polish my epx1 up...and win the thing for you guys...

so back to the original question...has anyone polished up their epx1 yet???

A lot of the hype of this ball was that it was supposed to be VERY easy to polish up, and that it could cover ANY condition with just a little cover prep. I don't have one yet, but a guy that I bowled with last year just got one, and I'm betting he'll polish his up very soon.

Well you can't sand it, but you can polish it. It is supposed to still look dull even if you hit it with extender polish.

I honestly don't know but if you did raise the grit to say 800 and you polished it you might have an over-glorified plastic ball.  I will say this much is the Epoxy cover will probably get better, and you will see more from Columbia with this cover and you are going to see appartently with its sister company Track.  I still think personally that Reactive Resin is still the standard and you WILL see less and less Particle equipment.  So as far as Epoxy its the same thing as Reactive Resin when it was released, people were skeptical and interested at the same time but its  still in its infancy and you can't condemn the technology off of one ball.  If that was the case then all the Reactives you see would probably not all be there and Urethane Hammers would still be on the shelf

All you have to do is use the ball about 10-15 game and it will be like a polished urethane ball.I made 14 for 14 tens with my  spare ball epx.The ball will not even move on oil after 40- 50 games.Leaving 5 pins. Also left a pocket 5,7,10.The ball started losing performance at 10 -15 games and is now shot.DONT POLISH,DONT POLISH......you will just speed up the process of killing this piece of junk sooner.Dont listen to all the garbage out there saying that the ball only hooks on heavy oil or it dies. It only hooks on medium- dry after 10-15 games.A total piece of junk.

I am not a Columbia fan but I can't just believe that
a so big company can release a so bad product.
It's very innovative and I suppose they have tested
well enough. It isn't maybe the ball that you were dreaming
about but a piece of sh...I just can't believe it.
