Tell me about your Eruption Pro
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:11:47 PM »
If you have this ball, how does it perform on medium to dry conditions?  Are you using it with the box finish or have you knocked off the shine?  How would it compare to the Violent Eruption in overall reaction? ( I know it's a solid and the Violent is a pearl)  Is anyone using it who has slower speed and low revs?

Thanks for the help.

I am a low-rev stroker. Usually, I need balls with strong cores and coverstocks.
Although the Eruption Pro does not fall under this category, I find it to be quite
strong on medium-dry conditions especially when I knocked off the shine.  A very condition-specific ball for me, but still a good one.

Thanks for the reply.  When you say you knocked off the shine, did you change the surface or did you just rough up the surface a little?  How do you have it drilled?  Are you able to use it on medium dry to dry lane conditions?  Thanks for the help.

Hi Thedjs:

I used an Abralon Pad (dry-3000 grit). I drilled it  30 X 4 X 45.

My specs are:  17mph (off the hand)
                      12 degrees axls tllt
                      280 rev rate
                      Rt- handed

My best results were on medium-dry and dry. On these conditions, the ball got excellent length and very good recovery, with good carry.  This is a ball that
does not come out of my bag on most other conditions. I have been throwing Columbia equipment for a long time. I recently began trying some other brands as well. My current Columbia arsenal is listed below:

Enigma -for heavy oil
Antics (2--both drilled differently)- medium/hvy oil
Disorder- medium/heavy (great control ball)
Take Down- medium/first transition
Smack Down- medium oil, but very good on fresh (flatter) patterns
Vow- medium/transition ( my opinion, their best pearl)
Crazy Antics- medium, medium dry (just above the Eruption Pro)
Eruption Pro- medium to dry

I am considering purchasing the N'Sane Antics, too. I bowl in 2 leagues. One with the THS, the other is a sport pattern league. I also participate in the PBA 50 regionals. Columbia balls give me good control on the tougher patterns. This is especially true with the Smack Down/Take Down combo.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

You are welcome. I will also be posting a review of the N'Sane Antics in the very near future.

i had the orange EP
had it originally pin down and OBB surface, it was not what i wanted, it slowed down fast and was used up by the time it hit the pins
redrilled to pin up and it just didnt fit me.

im LH, 385-400 rpm
it seems like the lower rev guys like it much better
im sure some of tis was me helping it or just not being accurate sometimes
the lanes have some built in friction and that didnt work in my favor either.

I was able to get a black EP and this ball has the exact same core and numbers
i drilled it pin up and its a little longer and stronger the orange one.
this 1 I keep in my bag
same as the orange ball, very predictable motion
i know a few guys that are absolutely crushing the pins with theirs

Two handed friend, high rev, pin up, about 5 inch pin to PAP, annihilating top hats.

About 475 revs!
