Question on the Bullies.
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:34:39 AM »
Do they have a Mass Bias indicator on the ball in addition to the pin and CG?

The Bully core isn't asymmetrical according to Columbia. Every ball regardless of symmetry has a mass bias though, usually 6 1/4 inches from the pin through the CG. Use that measuring point as a reference for laying the ball out, should be just fine.

What do you mean not assymetrical according to Columbia how is it not I ask you?

Well they don't advertise it as being asymmetrical do they? There's no mass bias locator, like the Drive or Alter Ego has and they are advertised as asymmetrical. My point was that Columbia never said anything about the Bully series having an asymmetrical core. Asymmetrical means that one side of the core (Top vs. Bottom or Side vs. Side) are different. Looking at the core it looks asymmetrical but they don't claim that it is.

Thanks for clearing things up Jeff. There are lots of cores out there that are asymmetrical but don't have that strong mass bias. And there are some cores that are supposed to be asymmetrical but don't look that way. By any chance are you going to Indiana this year for the RPC? If so, it would be great to meet up and talk "C". Later.....

Jon..

If your z-diff isn't above .007, then what is the benefit of taking note of the mb on a symmetrical ball?

(by the way, its 6 3/4, not 6 1/4)

Thanks oh bowling guru Nickypoo, is that information straight from your lil friends at brunswick or did you learn that yourself? If you spent as much time on your game as you do learning the technical part of the bowling, you'd knock down more pins.

I'd like to see you put all that knowledge to work.

Besides I think Jeff Mop can answer any question that you can and at least he doesn't act like he knows everything.

Actually, learned all that from going to seminars and improving the technical factor of my business... (you knowwww, that drilling thing, rook)

You don't need to get defensive and personal when your information is incorrect.

I'm getting personal and you call me a rook? I've started drilling balls when I was 16, I learned from the following, Hobo Boothe, Bill Stimpke, Bryan Alpert, Nick Melnikoff (BowlersParadise.com Owner), and Rod Ross (Junior Team USA Coach, Gold Level). Forgive me if my "technical" expertise isn't as current as yours, but I've been in the business of bowling since you were 5'4" and 85lbs. If you want to get personal, I can play that game. And it isn't "your" business, don't forget that guy you work for might have taught you a thing or two.

As far as a war between companies, Brunswick will always win the retail bowling war (Selling Balls), because they give their stuff away to anyone and everyone (Unlimited 4 for 1 to Pro-Shops and internet sites). The company loses money from the bowling division, only to make it up with the boating and billiards divisions. They do make a quality product, but to me it doesn't matter what you use, to each his own. Columbia works for me, Brunswick works for you, but in the end you still gotta knock the pins down.

Lets not take things out of context now... Never said I owned the shop.

However, I run the show there and it is my business to know EVERYTHING and pass that information along to anyone who asks. And since you mentioned it, yes, I learned the most from my boss, who has more wisdom and intellect than anyone I've met.

I'm just kind of curious, being an apprentice of those formentioned and drilling for 13 years, that none taught you to use epoxy with slugs so they don't fly out when thrown. Pretty dangerous for your customers, but then again, you're only concerned about yourself, right?

Good luck with your shop there, I hope you succeed.

the Oracle from Roto Grip is another example,....actually asym, but not advertised as such because the mb is so small...it's also not marked on the ball

Jon .... I don't think Nick's post was as bad as you lead it on to be ....funny exchange between you two....obviously this stems from something more....

I've used Tenth Frame Insta-Cure for slugs and inserts since I worked with Nick and Rod in San Jose.  I've never had a problem up until recently. Accidents happen, I'm not going to make excuses,  I just do what any good businessman will do and replace the slug at no cost, apologize for the problem, and offer them a couple free games for their troubles. Don't worry about my customers, they are well taken care of.

Anyway, what does a loose slug have to do with me being concerned only with myself? Assuming, theorectically,  that's a true statement in the first place.

Anywayyyy, it may be time to sharpen your bits, they may not be cutting straight. Check out 5 min epoxy for slugs, glues like a champ.

That is all I have to say.
