I was on my distributors website today and saw 4 new balls coming from big C. The big one was the EPX T1 Epoxy in the high performance section. Color is purple. No specs given at all. Priced at about $20 more than my cost on the Bully line.
Other new balls:
Power Drive-Silver/Cream/Purple
U Turn Purple/Gold/Teal Pearl
U Turn Particle Teal/Red/Black

Hey Clint,
Is this the ball my local pro shop guy said that if you had any
kind of hand it was in the channel about 3 ft past the arrows?
Just checkin

The great thing I have HEARD about the Epoxy is the manufacturer can determine how much hook the ball has by doing something to the cover. Not really sure, but they can control it by adding/taking something out, something along those lines. So, yes, they can make one that hooks into the gutter at the arrows or go dead straight. It is very versatile for the manufacturer. I am looking forward to seeing the ball first hand when one arrives for the Columbia Elite pro shop program samples I receive!

My guess would be it's just like Particle balls. Yes you can make a particle ball that hooks a ton if you put a high load of particles in it, but not every particle ball hooks at your feet. So I don't see why they can't change something in the coverstock to make it more controlable.

Thanks, I can hardly wait to see one for sure. I am not one
who would need such a ball. I have enough trouble with the
ones I have. Sheesh with my slow speed and hand quantity I
am one who can hook a blue dot 10 boards or more...dang.
One of those hookers in my hands would only spell DISASTER...

I thought that the varaiation of the epoxy resulted in the curing time, the longer the more hook. I wonder what type of core, since if the cover will or supposed to hook so much?
-
I really don't remember the difference or what is in it and how they contro it...it has been almost a year since my trade show (coming up next month) and pretty much all the specifics Fig told me then.

I think I remember Fig telling us they could use any core they wanted, the cover controlled how much the ball hooked. The test balls at the trade show last year had Icon 300 cores in them, but they were simply left overs they could use for testing in the test balls. I have no clue about the core in this ball.

Hip, hip, hooray. A ball that hooks. I can't wait.

Who cares where the info comes from? Just another sponge that moves enough oil down the lane throughout an eight game block to make you think the heads are completely burnt up.

Decent info that the 3 Mid line balls are coming anytime now, at least the ones for the Elite Pro shops, and the Epoxy ball will be coming in July.

Don't you guys ever give up on the conspiracy theory thing. When Pat Nolan gave us some info a while back he had stated that AMF (at the time) was working on making the strength of the ball so that it was useful to the public. I can't believe a total "hook in the box" would set a good starting point for showing the strengths or versatility of epoxy. Yes i wish they would hype the ball also, but as it has been delayed so many times it must mean that everything is still not ironed out. Remember that Columbia just cut some staffing and moved some people around so any shake up always has financial ramifications on current projects. Another thought might be the "wait and see" on all the proposed USBC rules. If the rules get changed it might also cause further issues of production so why not wait until the path is clear. For some of the posters who were already casting stones, where is your information to back up all of your negative hype.
-
Don't know about the core thing, but I see what you are saying! Didn't know Del was ever working on it, that is news to me. I hope its not later than July...a few people in my area have heard about it and at least want to try one...something any of these bowlers have NOT said about Columbia in the past few years in their cases. Columbia is popular in my area, just I wouldn't expect what they said to come out of their mouths.

Sorry, no tech info on this one, but will clear up any questions.
It was decided that Columbia will launch the epoxy first for the corporation.
Launch date will be later than July (stay tuned, sports fans).
This Epoxy formulation does take longer to cure than urethane.
The increased cost comes from R&D. This project has been almost 10 years in the making. It is a patented process, not only for bowling, but for any application. Will other manufacturers have an epozy formula? Not like this one. It also involves extra equipment that the urethane based reactives and particle balls do not, which is a capital investment.

What i have heard that these new balls are a form of "Ball Plug". I here Carmon Salvino has a large hand in this long project.

Scott had 2 of them a few weeks ago to test out. He drilled both of them the same (2 different colored pins with same pin dist and top weight) as his Ultimate Inferno (similar pin and top as well), pin above the bridge cg swung out about 1". After he leaned on them to shine them both up (with Big B's high gloss polish) they still looked like they were at 600 grit. One ball was a good 5-6 boards stronger than the Ultimate the other was probably 2-3 boards stronger. Very very hard and continuous arc. He was throwing on a flat oil shot 42 feet, starting between 4th-5th arrow and getting it out to about 8-9. Looked impressive. The cover was very soft though could alomst dig your fingernail into it and indent it.
From what Scott said, the coverstock was essentially ball plug material. No info/word on the core either. Will wait and see.

Epoxy, is a ball plug material. But you also said that you could indent the ball, wonder what the hardness is?
