Drilling up an Alter Ego
« on: April 04, 2005, 03:48:55 PM »
Picking up one of these beasts used and am looking for a drill recommendation.  I was hoping that I could use this ball to chase the oil line through the night on our THS.  15.8 mL of oil buffed to 39'.  Just as a comparison most PBA shots are in the 19-22 mL range.  The oil is only applied to 28' and the rest is buffed out on our shot.  Flat oil from 2 to 2 on the first 5' of the lane then it starts tapering from 9 to 9 after 5' to 14 to 14 out at 28'.  Nice shot, not too easy, not too hard.

More about me though.  Ball speed is 16-17 mph, PAP is 5.5" right and 1" up.  Revs to match my speed.  Axis tilt isn't nailed down tight, but it's from 10-13 degrees by my best estimate.

Please help!  Thanks...

Also, as another option...

What would be a good layout for this ball on higher oil volume sport shots?

I would think it would be too much ball for a med-light shot you are bowling on. I drilled one up for a customer long and strong with above average speed and a good amount of hand, med to high rev rate, and he has a hell of a time keeping it under control on our shot, wood, 22 m/l  50 units in middle, tapered to 10 ( 18 units ) 41 foot buff. I would think it would be too much ball, for a sport shot a good selection. It's a stronger ball than most people realise, good core and cover combo.

If I can shoot 700+ with a Lane #1 Black Cherry Bomb on this shot I should be able to use this bugger for at least the first game.  C'mon folks...
