Big Bully... Is it as bad as the TV condition makes it look?

That ball may be one of the biggest TV dogs of all time!

And I like a lot of Columbia stuff!

I don't think the Big Bully's bad at all...

A couple people I see every now and then make their Big Bullies look great!  Awesome smooth and controlled heavy-oil reaction with decent hit and carry.  The ball seems to be getting a bad reputation because of TV though!

He should have had the thing polished, the read he got with it dull was too over/under.  A little shine would have made it stronger off the breakpoint which is what he needed.

A friend of mine has one. He's not what you would call a regular bowler, and he throws this ball amazing. It gives him a great reaction and carry. For the zillionth time...it's the bowler, not the ball. I'm sure Chris used the ball which he felt gave him the best reaction.

Jeff I would agree polish generally enhances over/under.  If you ask me the ball isn't bad at all Barnes was playing the lanes wrong, everyone else played inside but he was outside and had no reaction if he got to the pocket he couldn't carry.  B pattern always plays inside, you start inside and move deeper as the games go on and I think he should have been in. But nobody asked me and I am just a lousy hack anyway.

I should just quit bowling, oh wait I already tried that.

This week wasn't D pattern.... strips?

REgards,

LUckylefty
PS it's not the ball it's the bowler?(from above).  Therefore Chris Barnes is a bad bowler?
No Chris Barnes is a great bowler.  I agree this ball looks like it could be great on a well oiled house condition.  But on a thin oiled TV shot it looks like too much surface often when used.  To me it looks like someone using a ball for incentive money!

This past week was B pattern. If you look at Devaney's reaction with the Inferno and classic zone, it tells me that Chris needed something with a bit more backend and less roll up front. A little bit of shine would helped, or he could have just used a detour. Either way he was playing too direct and too near the huge OB on B pattern (43 feet). It looked like 10 board (dark board down the lane) was the breakpoint and anything outside that the ball wiggles. a dull ball is going to roll early and have nothing on the backend especially if you miss a bit to the right on that long pattern. This is just from my experience on B pattern.

I'm going to agree with Jon - at the very least, he might have tried moving inside more with the Big Bully he was throwing, or changed to one with a higher pin position.

Wasn't that a big ole pin-high Big Bully in the first place..it seems all his stuff is drilled like that...
