What does Columbia 300 mean to Bowlers?

I am a student at Vanderbilt College conducting a research project on the sport of bowling. I was told this site would be a good place to begin my research. What does the ‘Columbia 300’ name mean to bowlers? Could anyone throw out a few adjectives that describe the brand in general? For instance, a friend told me the Hammer brand was arrogant, aggressive and loud. I am looking for the same type of information as it applies to Columbia 300. Any insight would be appreciated!

IMO Columbia 300 means, The Classic bowling ball company the company that has supplied some of the most well known balls the sport has had. The Yellow Dot Bleeder, the Messengers, Sting Ray, Cuda, etc. Columbia is the History of the sport a legend in the sport if Columbia wasn't in the sport anymore it would be like the Green Bay Packers leaving the NFL, The Yankees leaving the MLB.

Industry leader to "Tec Death" to "Epoxy Flop" to plain Jane. That spans description from the 80's till now.

irrelavent, lackluster aren't the best words but just off the top of my head to the company in the last 5 years. I agree with classic but much of that thought is dated.

so what about the messenger line? that was in the 90s and one of the best lines of bowling balls...ever, or the Rage line, Boss line, Quake, Pulse, Cuda I can go on and on they dominated the 90s. and by the way the EPX t1 was the best oiler I ever had for over 200 games if you cleaned it right it could not be stopped.

Too many bowlers, it was the company that started the evolution of the modern bowling ball. They yellow dot from the late 70, early 80's I would imagine is the highest selling ball of all time. It was common to bowl in a mens league with 10 of them on rack. IMO that started the movement that got us to modern coverstocks of today.

I threw Columbia almost exclusively though the 90's and some in the early 2,000's. I did not put a exacting timeline pointing out good and bad. Every company has that but as a whole the decline was more publicized than the success stories. The TI Messenger I believe was around 99-2000 time period and to is one of the best ever. The question was based upon broad brush answers and my opinion. For me thats what I think you don't have to agree.

You were the exception and not the rule to the EPX or it would have sold and that technology wouldn't have been shelfed.

I had all negatives to say about the company in which you threw for a decade.  But you then said there were exceptions, so it couldn't have been all bad you did use them for a decade.  Not to mention there current line up is one of the best if not the best on the market today.

I'm sure a Vandy college student will be able to filter out the BS spewing from some individuals [(i.e., 'I used them exclusively for more than a decade that's how I know they are crap')... like that makes any sense].  However, Columbia for me means consistency, durability, and great carry.  Especially durability.  I have to clarify that I'm talking the old Columbia before they were bought out by Ebonite.  Now I'm not sure, yet.
One tip: research the history of the sport and see what pros used what balls and if they had anything to say about Columbia.  Good luck on your research.

I'm glad you can read,"almost exclusively" secondly  why would it be BS. I used them when I thought they were the best. Piranha's,Torqs,Cudas, Pulse etc. Urethane Era80's - Columbia in the upper crust of the market, Resin era 90's. Columbia, Track and Brunswick "Zones" were the top. Particle Era starts early 2000's Columbia catches a bad label with "Tec Death" some good releases some so-so, "lackluster". They take a shot to change the game and it is primarily a "Flop" with epoxy. They still have decent equipment here and there but nothing keeping them in the public's eye as much as some of the other companies "plain Jane". Again its my opinion.
