Title: Why Did Ebonite-Columbia Change the Scout R?
Post by: billy2gun on August 08, 2007, 12:09:18 AM
I fortunately have an "old" Black Pearl Scout/R. But, can anyone provide information, explanation why Ebonite-Columbia changed the Scout?

The change was made to reduce redundancy across product lines and to reduce the total number of balls released out into the market.  This type of ball was already covered under Ebonite's Tornado Series.  So the old Scout/R design is now available as a Tornado and the Old Tornado Warning is available as a Columbia Scout/R.

Sorta right and sorta wrong.  Ebonite still makes tornado warnings and tornados and Columia did change the scout and it is basically a tornado warning, but they also introduced the jazz which is basically the same as the reg tornado.  So you got

Jazz = Puck
Tornado = Puck

Scout= No Puck
Tornado Warning = No Puck

They aren't on Ebonite's website anymore, nor are they listed on Buddies and many other online shops. So they aren't making them for this year.

I will have to double check I may be wrong but i could have sworn they were in the new catalogs.  Never the less they are definitely making both a jazz and scout.  Wouldn't hurt my feelings any Ebonite has never had any good color choices in their warnings or tornados in my opinion,  I have always stocked tropical storms. I always thought tropicals and power grooves looked a lot better than tornados and warnings.

Now here's a twist. Would Ebonite-Columbia consider making a sanded Scout/R? The Tornado Warning I believe comes sanded.

Correct.  Tornado Warning are no longer.  The Scouts replace the Warnings completely.
