Title: Why does my WD hook?

Bought a 15 lb.for my spare ball and the hand in the middle of my grip and it hooks at least two boards. Is this normal? Will I see a straighter reaction once it wears in? I don't have a lot of rev's or speed.

It used to be my strike ball 25 years ago. If it hooks it is because the lanes are dry and you put side rotation on it.

PS mine hooks slightly also but just enough to graze paint off the 7 pin...(wobble wobble).

Anything will hook if you throw it slow with a good amount of revs or if the lanes are dry. I have one that ive owned about 2.5 years ago and it got really dull and started hooking a little so i just polished now it slides no matter what just about.

It hooks for the same reason every other ball hooks.  The combination of the lane conditions, the ball's surface prep, and bowler's release create friction between the ball and the lane.

A better question would be "What can I do to stop that from happening?".

Thanks, for the input. Shelley , besides breaKing my wrist and throwing the ball harder what other things can I try. Are some of the other manufactures spare ball covers more condusive to straighter ball roll?

As I said, lane conditions, surface prep, release.  You can't control the lane conditions, they are what they are.  You are looking for something besides release.  Guess what's left.  

There are several polishes out there that increase length and decrease backend (most typical polishes increase backend reaction), Track's Delayed Reaction and Legends Extended Length polish come to mind.  I can't remember if DR is available now under the Powerhouse brand, but your shop might have some around.  Add a coat of that on top of the stock polish and you'll see less reaction out of it.  It has a slip agent that helps reduce the friction created.

Maybe something like Turtle Wax or another wax-based polish.  Typically not recommended for bowling balls because they tend to ruin expensive reactive coverstocks but for a plastic ball that you want to straighten out, it's just what you're looking for.

I use Finesse It on my spare ball to straighten it out, but I can still hook it if I want to.

Keep the ball polished and try drilling the thumb deeper to add finger weight.  On drier syn. lanes the plastic balls will hook more then on wood lanes

90% of poly or plastic balls are factory sanded on to a max of 600 wet sand, have your pro shop sand it to 2000 then apply a couple heavy coats of high gloss polish, that will straighten it out !!!!!

My spare ball will hook if there is enough dry.

I have no issues though getting it to go straight on dry lanes, plastic is just so mild on our conditions nowadays in my experience that I have no issues with reaction, if I were to I would just be a little weaker on the lift, and as already stated break my wrist back and not lift just guide the ball to the target with my fingers.

DR is still made under powerhouse. This is great stuff, and is one of the best length and reaction removing products. This was even before the buyout.

You dont always have to throw the ball harder to keep it from moving. Sometimes if you try to throw it harder you can end up hitting it more then you plan. I like to use a full roller release when I throw at single pin spares on the right side. This will get the ball into such a early roll you wont need to worry about backend reaction because once the ball is rolling it cant snap on the back, and if it does you know you are not letting it go full roller.
