Wicked or Hyde? Which is the Better Ball?
« on: January 03, 2004, 08:53:43 AM »
Overall, which would you consider the better ball, and what top weight and pin position would you recommend for a good, aggressive drilling?  (I don't know jack about the drilling stuff or any of that yet, just started getting into that area).

Well it depends what you want? Something for heavier oil or lighter oil?

This doesn't directly answer your question but I would recommend getting with a good pro shop that knows the lanes you bowl on that can watch you.  He can then put you into something that will work for you and do what you want it to (within reason).  The Wicked B/R/T is a good versatile ball that can be polished or dulled and hits good.  Don't have first hand info on the other ball other than what I read on this site.  Hope this helps, good luck.

Comparing these two balls is kinda like comparing oranges and tangerines.  Close but different.  Wicked is polished reactive resin, goes pretty long, has nice back ends, pretty good ball for the price.  Hyde is solid reactive resin that comes dull in the box.  Even if you polish it, the Hyde will roll a little earlier, and be smoother.  More of a banana shaped hook.

If you are just getting into bowling, either would be a good choice.  Depends on the lanes where you bowl.  If they are medium/dry go with the Blue Wicked.  If the lanes are medium/oily go with the Hyde.

Hope this helps ya...

I don't think the Blue Wicked is good for Medium/Dry unless you either don't put a lot of revs on the ball or throw the ball with a lot of speed.  I love my blue Wicked, but when it hit's the dry, it turns hard.
Get it drilled weak if you chose this ball.

well lets see.... seeing as how i test bowling balls... ive thrown both of these on numerous conditions!!!!!!!

the all around better ball (at least in the northwest) is the HYDE!!!
infinite amounts of drilling possiblities... i can either make the ball go 58 ft and wrinkle 2 boards or hook at the arrows with 120 units in the heads.

GO WITH THE HYDE!!!!!

get to know it.... you'll see me soon enough!!!!!

I have a Hyde, brother has the Wicked.

My preference is down the boards, his is fling, swing and bring.  The wicked IS better for getting through the lane with hard backend.  The Hyde is better for a better midlane read and will hit dry reasonably hard.  Wicked hooks more on any condition.

It should be noted, though, that historically, big skid-snap balls like Wicked have difficulty on harder lane conditions.  Unless you have the power to make up for idiosyncracies in accuracy, I'd use Hyde.  It's really a matter of preference, they both do what they were made to.

one member of my league team bowls with a wicked, the red one. all i can say is my jaw drops every time he throws that ball. from the 30 over the 17, to the 5 and then it just SNAPS. the pocket either blows up (80% of the time) or he pulls a waliczek! i dunno about the hyde, but on medium conditions the wicked is well... wicked!
