How about setting up the latest post links on the home page so that when you click one, it takes you to the latest post in that thread, not just to the thread its self, so that then you have to click a couple more times to get the latest info.
If you can do it, it sure would make it convenient to get the scoop on the longer threads. Then if someone wants to see the rest of it, they can scroll through on their own time.
