Im wondering if anybody has tried this method on older equipment and what were the results if you did? i have on old amf angle evolution pearl im thinking about trying with this method, to try to bring some life back into it, also i have a hot rod ss pearl i was thinking of trying that one too. Anybody tried it on older stuff?

I've tried similar on older balls and it failed miserably. The first was an old purple Rhino. It had some reaction until I removed the oil and threw it on the spinner. I tried several different combinations and nothing worked...turned it into a spare ball.

Same thing happened with a Columbia Super Trooper.

I'd recommend staying away from the 360 and 500 abralon pads on older equipment. I'd recommend using something like Valentino's Rejunivator and then the 4000 abralon. I think you'd have better luck.

This is also the way I resurface balls (I just start with a brown 3M pad, about 220 grit) and woerk my way up gradually with Abralon pads to the desired sanding finish. Worked very well on older pieces (oldest one I currently have in use is a ball from 2000) and newer ones. I am confused by your observation.

If you do not get a proper reaction or the ball does not feel tacky, I'd recommend a severe oil extraction - either before you sand tghe ball at all or after the roughest 1st stage. A thoroughly soaked piece will still not build up traction, or just grip a bit better than before as long as the track area stays sanded.

I recently took my old Roto-Grip Quest that I gave to a friends nephew who later decided that it was more fun to roll in the garage than it was on the lanes.It was pretty chewed up.I used 180 grit abralon,360 grit abralon,500 grit abralon and then 2000 grit abralon.All using the cross-hatch sanding method.I then threw it in the polishing machine for one minute and the ball looks practically brand new.It gets a good read on the lane but too much speed and you suffer over-under terribly.The Quest was never one of Roto's strongest hooking ball but it is a good ball with the right surface.I recently took the polish back off and brought it down to 1500 grit using Brunswicks Siaair abralon pads and will try it on wed.nights league.If I see burn out when I use it in practice I will throw it in the buffer for one minute and see where it goes from there.Not sure if this helps.just throwing my two cents out there.

I don''t know how the Blue Vibe came to it''s final grit but first:
extracted oil using the water method
500 abralon
Used 4000 abralon pad (lightly 5sec./2 sides)
polished with snake oil
The ball is stronger than when it came OOB,roll it more it can cover some boards use the arrows to target goes down/in

yeah ive already extracted the oil, i do that before every resurface. im gonna give it a shot on both balls, im not using them very much right now anyways so what have i got to lose? Also, how does this method work on pearlalized covers?

No difference at all between solids and pearls. Some older particles might be tougher, and urethane, but the latter does not absorb much oil at all.

done it to a special agent, agent, thunder road pearl and gravity shift...all started with 360 then 500 then to final grit then polish(if needed)

Relating to older balls.. (pre mid 1990's).. I find today's covers with 4000 abralon are still atleast 2x as strong as the older balls that are at 400-800 grit US (700-1500P Abralon Standard).. If you take an older ball to 4000 abralon it seems to turn it into a marble..

That is what I have seen.
