Many times you hear people say they “hit†their ball with an abrasive pad to increase reaction . If starting with a polished ball and a spinner how would you do it ?

Many times it's just by hand.
I'll just take a 3000 pad most of the time and use it until I don't see shine

+1 by hand. Light grey or gold scotch brite great for knocking shine off by hand as well if don't get carried away. Still generally when I want to knock polish off on a spinner I will go ahead and do 20 sec a side (or full 30 if want a more full resurface) with maroon scotch brite and then go 30+ sec a side with Royal compound. Saves on pads but granted not as precise so doing say maroon, light grey and then 3k pad.

Scotchbrite also works well, and is cheaper. Burgundy=320-500 grit, green =600 grit, grey=800grit, white=1000-1200grit.
