Abralon polished... what is it???
« on: March 08, 2006, 04:16:59 PM »
My Doom is 1000 grit abralon polished OOB.  Does this mean it was sanded to 1000 grit abralon then polished, or Polished with 1000 grit abralon till sheen?  I have been trying the whole week to try and get the Doom back to box condition after my pro shop guy at the center i bowl in fixed a burn mark then polished the hell out of it in the lustre king (that doesnt half work).  How can i get it back to box.

Then would the reason it is not reacting like it was be that i have to burn a new track into the ball?  This ball had MASSIVE backend when i got it, now it has almost nothing.

Luster kings will take the backend off anything

Some, if not all, Lustre King machines polish a ball with a waxy substance.  That will clog up the pores on the ball and kill its reaction.  You may have to sand off the Lustre King crap and then polish the ball back up again.  It should return to normal.

That may have been true a few years ago. The old Lustre-Kings did use a waxy substance. I have been told the newer Lustre-Kleen machines use a true polishing compound.

NO, they are still waxy polishes and they will clog the poors on the bowling ball completly making them like spare balls.

well, i went back out today, and the ball started acting fine.  I am also thinking of going back to inserts to help get lift back onto the ball.  But i sanded off all the lustre king crap, and redone it myself.  everything is almost back to normal.

Never polish a performance ball with a Luster King.    Your proshop guy was just plain lazy.   He should have done it by hand.

1000 Abralon polished=   sanded with 1000, then polished with Factory Finish, as stated above.

Just shows how humungous of a wet dry shot we have where we bowl.

All the locals polish for as long as possible in the lustre king to calm those babies down!

If you don't do it for righties 4 9s and lefties 6 8s rule...right in the pocket!

Being from the Ebonite family, they probably sanded it to 1000 grit using an Abralon pad and then applied Ebonite's Factory Finish polish to it. Ebonite recommends that a ball be at least 800 grit before applying Factory Finish polish. When it does, balls get a veru nice gloss shine to them.
