difference in these finishes??
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:53:10 AM »
What would the difference in reaction be in a ball that is 500 grit polished and one that is just 4000 grit no polish?

I apologize in advance but the correct answer, I believe, is always it depends ... on some of the following factors:
1. the coverstock involved,
2. the type of polish (one with abrasive in it and one with no abrasive),
3. How much polish is applied to the ball.
4. The bowler's delivery. One with higher revs and lower ball speed will see a greater difference that a bowler wiht higher ball speed and lower rev rate.

Charlest is correct, this question is dependent on many things like  he listed. To give a generic answer from what i have seen:

*Mind you i have no clue what ball you are talking about, this might be different for many balls*

4000 dull is a very fine finish, which will allow the ball to clear the heads very easily and use most of its hook in the backend. 500 Polished is gonna read the lanes earlier even tho it is polished. The 500 grit is very strong and is going to cut through the oil whether it is polished or not, the polish is just gonna help it have a little more pop in the backend.
