Title: Abralon and Sandpaper
Post by: EFFEN 10 on January 10, 2010, 04:10:43 AM
Perhaps someone can help me out here.I thought I read some where that if
you divide the abralon grit number by 2,you get the sandpaper equivalent,ie
4000 abralon equals 2000 sandpaper.Am I wrong in my thinking?

Yes you are off by a bit. I used to have a chart and I am not certain of these numbers any more but think it goes as follows.
4000a=1500g
3000a=1200g
2000a=1000g
1500a=900g
1000a=800g
800a=600g
500a=360g
360a=180g

I could be off on some but to the best of my recollection those are pretty close.
Keep your topic up at the top and I am sure someone will post the link that shows Abralon, Trizact, sandpaper, etc. in a chart form so you can see how they correspond.

And keep in mind that most companies use abralon pads exclusively now because they give a much more even texture to the coverstock.

See above before you made your post.
