abralon question

what do I need to order to use the abralon 1000, 2000, 4000 grit discs?? Do I need a velcro pad or somethig??  I have a vertex spinner and wouyld like to try these to polish balls.  any advice on abralon is greatly appreciated, doug

 Doug you can hold them in your hand. They come with a foam backing, use lots of water.

Contact gilaz33 he sells starter kits for about 18.00 with shipping, i had mine in 2 days from this guy. Abralon pads are great because as they wear out you have in between grits 1000 becomes 1200 and so forth.

I just got some pads in and had ordered 180-360-500-1000-2000-4000. How hard to you push or hold them on the ball? I was shocked at how much dust was on the pad after using 500 for just a few seconds.

Keep a spray bottle next to the spinner hit the ball first with water and then the pad itself with the water, they cut so fast you need to be careful. With water they last alot longer dry they will wear out really fast, but nothing gives a better cleaner surface change IMO.

Water...a MUST !! I dip mine in a plastic ice cream bucket, needed an excuse to buy ice cream, anyway !

The 5 qt size works great. The pad has room to lay out, I dip, change pads what ever, I still use a spray bottle at times, but the bucket is faster and easier, IMO

Thanks for the water reply. I would still like to know how long and how much pressure you put on the pad. I did put my 500 on my gp2 dry for about 10 seconds with light pressure.

Live and learn. The ball is ok. But will use water in the future.

As  a general rule, I never go over 20-25 seconds per position ( 6 step/position) Some may disagree, but that way I never "over step" one grit at a time. If I want more change, I'll just go back over the whole process with a bit more pressure, but I never go over 20-25 seconds. Just how I do it, hope that helped.

Oh, a $6.95 large clock at Wal Mart above the spinner works, cheap and VERY easy for my old eyes to see....

I have a small timer from my competition shooting days. It has count down and up in seconds. I think that will work just fine.

Usually I find even with lots of water that Abralon 2000 does not give me the same length of 2000 sand paper.  Others find the same?

As far as special set up for abralon .....YES...you need one.

One has to glue velcro to your sanding polishing hand!!!  Then the Velcro from the abralon pad can be taken off or put back on.

It's a little funny if you have a job where you shake hands with a lot of people but when you tell them you are a bowler...they get it!

Very True. Sand paper of the same grit as an Abralon Pad leaves deeper marks in the ball.

I've been using the regular Abralon discs with a CAB block.  This makes it easier for me to apply consistent pressure to the ball while it's on the spinner.

I've also been using my Abralon discs dry...I'll have to try using water.

while in the deep dark waiting room at Nationals, waiting to bowl singles and doubles,..my doubles partner suggested we take some 1000 to our balls just in case. Went to the water fountain and wet one down,..he sanded and I wiped,..
did I mention we finished 4th in Doubles...
