abralon starter kits??
« on: February 08, 2006, 05:58:22 AM »
anyone know where I can get abralon starter kits, including CAB hand held devices.

I would like to try this stuff as I do much playing with covers and resurfacing balls with my vertex spinner.

Starter kits don't come cheaply.
Haven't seen any special "holding" devices for them, like a CAB.

Here's one:

I believe there's someone here who sells them; check Wanted/For Sale or "Cover Preparation forums.

Same price here:

Charlest, I thought I saw a place that had like a contoured hand held holder for the pad itself.  looked pretty nifty.  velcro attached I beleive.

ps: still loving that UI I got from you, still hooks great, great hitter.

Doug,

Enjoy my $200 mistake! (mumble, curses, {expletive deleted} )

The closest I can come is this gem I use sometimes, but not with Abralon per se. It's good for any 5" or 6" diameter hook and loop sanding pad.

http://www.woodworkingshop.com/
(Edited that darn humongous link; it was screwing up the entire thread; just do the simple search)
I use this company a LOT for my sanding needs for wood and other stuff.
If this link doesn;t work, do a search on http://www.woodworkingshop.com/ for "hook and loop pads"; this will be the last item on the list. It's called a 5" X 1/8" FLEX HAND PAD/H&L (H&L is hook and loop).

Son of a gun!

Doug,

Page 2:

In my wanderings I found another abralon source AND, Ta-daaaaa! a 6" "Hook and Loop Interface pad". I guess a 6" one is better than the above 5" one?
Plus there's more pads. They seem to start off a little more expensive, but they exist!

FYI I find no problem just holding them with the palm of my hand, as the have a good sized sponge pad backing the abrasive.

I can't speak for starter kits, but for the Abralon Pads themselves, I've read that they are available from .... gilaz33 .... for $3.00 each "shipped". Here is a recent link on this.

Yup, that's the guy. Great price!
Only time I've ever seen it cheaper was when I bought a whole box from Ebay.

That price is VERY high. Ebonite's Abralon have to still be made by the manufacturer, Mirka. Pretty sure it's patented.
