adjusting the coverstock
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:12:49 AM »
I recently purchased a Cell and a Black Widow both are @ 600 grit sanded. My question is that I want to take them to either 2000 or 4000 oob. would I have to start from the beginning( as if I were resurfacing ) or can I go to the next grit higher than 600?

you dont want to more than double the grit, go to 1000 then 2000 then 4000

Are they at P600 (FEPA) or 600 grit US/CAMI?

If you're at 600 grit US/CAMI, then, IF you want to go to 2000 grit FEPA/Abralon, that is actually 1000 US/CAMI, a short jump up from 600 grit US/CAMI, then there is no need for an intermediate grit level.

IF, however, you're going from P600 to P2000, then, yes, do use an intermediate grit level, like P1000 AND P1500 grit.

You should be specific at what grit grading system you are using when you quote grit numbers: FEPA ("P" grades) or US/CAMI grade.
