My take on remedy ball cleaner
« on: November 04, 2008, 05:36:48 AM »
I finally got my 32oz of  remedy in as well as 8 oz of snake oil... you can never have too much snake oil

I didnt get to bowl with it yet but I can make some comparisons to products I currently own.

I have:

clean n dull
remedy
lanemasters
BM rejuvenator

I think that all of the above cleaners do a great job.

for dull balls and to prevent ball death nothing is better then clean n dull. I think we can all agree its the most aggressive deep cleaner there is.

now as for a quick cleaner I have found that:

remedy and lanemasters is a tie for me. both seem to clean very well but do it in different ways. Remedy has virtually no scent when sprayed unless you are trying to sniff the vapors... lets not get into the people that would do that I found remedy to do exactly what kevin has said. and thats to get the ORIGINAL tackiness back when you bought the ball. I didnt see this super tackiness that some people boasted but what do you expect it to do? make your ball sticky???

now as for lanemasters it is just as aggressive as remedy but GOD the smell! I suffer from migraines and the smell of lanemasters makes me sick and have a migraine instantly. none the less as far as cleaning its one of the best out there.

as for black magic it has its pros and cons too. It breaks down oil VERY fast and it smells good too. about the only thing I didnt like about BM was that while it attacked the oil like no other cleaner will it seems to completely ignore the surface of the ball... you can scrub and scrub and the marks stay there.

heres how id rank them.

clean n dull.... the champ of all cleaners  (but would you want to use this at the lanes and get it on your hands???)

the others are really at a tie for me. I dont feel any of them CLEAN better then the other.

BUT the one I will be using is remedy. it cleans VERY fast, takes just a couple sprays, and doesnt smell like I spilled an ENTIRE bottle of alcohol... plus it does seem to leave just a tiny bit more tack then with a cleaner like clean n dull.

1.) clean n dull
2.) remedy
3.) BM
4.) LM (only 4th because of smell otherwise it would be tied for 2nd)

icewall,

I have never had a ball with the stock tackiness as tacky as Remedy makes mine. It is SO tacky, if I were strong enough, it would enable me to palm a bowling ball, seriously. All I do is spray twice for about 1/4 of the ball and rub with a micro-fiber or terry cloth towel, until the Remedy evaporates on the surface. Then the surface is more tacky than even Clean and Dull makes a ball.

agreed. for me clean n dull is the best but like you said it doesnt leave a tacky feeling when done with it. While Remedy sure does get to that OOB tackiness.

I used it on my ogre ss that really doesnt tend to get dirty but I figured it needs to be cleaned anyway. thats when I felt the OOB tackiness come back.

I will try and use remedy as kevin said. put it on a towel and wipe between shots. its not going to make me a better bowlers but hey ill take any advantage I can get.

I actually tried an experiment and sprayed some Remedy on a newly-drilled Rotogrip Pluto that hadn't been thrown down the lane yet, and it made it much tackier than straight out of the box.

Glad we ranked high!

Wiping the track of your bowling ball with a cleaner every shot is one of my secrets. Too often I see bowlers in league, tournaments, PBA throw a bowling ball which has visible rings of wet oil on the ball. Not only does compromise the reaction of your next shot, but that allows the oil to sit on your ball and soak which leads to "ball death."

My second secret weapon is Remedy, that tackiness translates into backend grip and continuation of the ball through the pins instead of deflection.

icewall,

You misread what I wrote. Remedy doesn't even come close to "restoring" the OOB tackiness. In my mind and on my hands, it exceeds the OOB tackiness by a factor, at least.

I previously ordered 2 8oz bottles of Remedy RX and am almost out of it, so I just now placed my second order for the Remedy RX. This time I ordered a 32 oz bottle for myself and an 8 oz bottle for a friend that tried mine and wanted some.

I love this stuff. I love the way it cleans the balls and I love the way it leaves it tacky. I probably use 2-3 times as much as most people do because I spray it on my microfiber towel and use after each shot during competition and flood my ball with it and let it sit until I see signs of evaporation before wiping it off after competition.

My theory for doing it like this is that if oil soaks into the coverstock, then letting the Remedy sit on the ball until it starts soaking into the coverstock will dissipate some of that oil. Right or wrong, I don't know, just know that I have very-very little problem if any at all, with my balls dying.

One reason I see that any cleaner, like Resurrection Rx, makes your ball feel tackier to the touch?
If you get it on your hand(s), it takes the oil out of your skin...Your hand is also tackier. If you spray some on your hand, and drag your hand on a ball, the ball will feel tackier....same as alcohol.

I'm not putting the product down...
I like it, and use it on all my equipment.

this is what im seeing... I rubbed my ball down with a bowling towel sprayed with remedy. It got on my bowling hand and WOW did it feel tacky!

I still like the product but dont feel that it will effect performance other then the cleaning of the pores of the ball. still a great product and I will continue to use it

Can REMEDY Rx be used during league play?
I thought I had read that it could.

If you wipe your ball down before every shot with a damp towel that has been sprayed with Remedy RX, and then clean your ball after bowling with Remedy RX, you will find that your ball that your ball is already as clean as if you had only thrown it 1-2 times down the lane.

We've actually had a few people ask if Remedy RX is really certified, yes, Remedy is USBC certified for before/during/after competition.

"Valentino Bowling Remedy RX"
http://www.bowl.com/specs/ballCleaner.aspx

Remedy's tacky effect and fresh ball surface is noticeable in the last 8-10 feet on the lane including through the pin deck. We tested the product 16 times on the lanes before we released it in August, and in 11 of the 16 tests we noticed the ball had an increased resistance against pin deflection. Remedy won't give you an instant 300, if it did it would be $99.95 a bottle (lol), but used in the right hands Remedy can help with shot repeatability and predictability, while maintaining your high preformance bowling ball.

I personally like to use a white microfiber towel when I go bowling with Remedy, that way I can see how much oil and gunk Remedy removes from the ball.

in case you aren't on the mailing list, we have a $1.50 off coupon for an 8oz. bottle. just type in REM08 when checking out, the coupon is good until the 14th of November.
