Another BAll spinner question
« on: January 07, 2004, 05:38:11 PM »
When you sand your ball with a spinner that has 2 speeds , what speed do you use? Reason i ask is that if you sand with 600 and up on high speed will the sandpaper wear out quicker? Shouldn't the surface of the sandpaper go away and now instead of having 600 grit paper in your hand it might be closer to 800 or more. I think the slower speed for sanding should be used to get the correct sanding done.

All replies welcome

Whenever I sand a ball I always use it on the lower speed setting.  When I polish a ball, I use the higher speed setting for a mirror-like shine.

Hope this helps.

Always use water to lubricate and, of course, use the black wet/dry sandpaper. Dry sandpaper cuts too quickly, too roughly and is VERY BAD for your lungs, if you want to be doing this for 10, 15, 20 more years. OR just if you want to be breathing for 10, 15, or 20 more years.

Bob Hylka,

I'm ready to buy an Innovative spinner, but would prefer the higher speed of the Donkey except for the concerns of it being a shake machine. It seems that you have good luck with your Donkey spinner.  How do you have it set up so that you don't seem to get the shaking problem that Brandon keeps talking about?

duvallite i have a donkey spinner , i do like the high speed and depending on the ball and how you have it sitting in the cup it can shake a good bit .I have mine screwed down to my work bench. Most of the time it's not bad, but however somtimes it does shake if i didn't have it bolted down i wouldn't be able to use it. But i do like mine , just my .02

I have had a couple of spinners and I am the most impressed with the 1/2 HP Vertex. The Jayhawk I had vibrated a lot because the bowl was not centered on the shaft.

The Donkee I had was a total abortion. It did vibrate and yes uncontrollably. I took it to my father in law who machined a new bearing carrier and made a few other mods and it was much better but still vibrated some. I gave him the spinner for use among his buddies since I had already replaced it with the Vertex.

There are good and bad products made everyday and we just need to know when we have a lemon. Most companies will take care of the problem if you let them know about it. In my case that didn't happen.

Glad yours worked fine. I did what you suggested and much more; still tried to self-destruct. nuff said.
