Are Abralon disks used with water when altering the surface on the ball? Similar to Scotch-brite pads? Can they be used dry as well like Scotch-brite?
I have noticed dry Scotch-brite just seems to have a more abrasive effect on the ball.

For me, Abralon definitely works best when used with water. It doesn't have as much to do with how gritty it makes the ball as it does with a) maintaining the life of the pads themselves; when I use them without water, they burn up quite quickly and b) using water helps cut down on the dust. Just my .02

When used with water, the pads also leave less lines on the ball. If you take a new 500 abralon and use it on a ball you'll see the sanding lines quite well.

Water acts as a lubricant and flows through the pad freely. This is why you can leave the ball looking nicer. High speed with water is even better.

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely use water as the Abralon pads are quite a bit more costly, to prolong the life and get the quality finish.
