Hi everyone. Let me first say i have been around this site forever and have gained a lot of knowledge and help from some of the members here. This is only my second post I believe so be easy on me. My shop guy was changing the surface on my 607 A-SE and realized he had run out of polish. He had some Storm step 2 rubbing compoud he finished the ball with with 800 as the underlying surface. My question is what kind of reaction can I excpect with this type of surface. I have never used a ball finished with compund and don't know what to expect. Thanks for any help in advance as I'm trying to learn all I can.

A compound has some "grit" to it, which will smooth out the underlying surface somewhat and then give the look of a polished ball. Personally, I like the Storm #2 and Brunswick Rough Buff because they seem to give the best of both worlds between the extra gritty stuff and a polish.

My opinion is that you will like what you see.

Thanks a lot notclay. I do like the way the finish looks. It has just a touch of shine to it but looks sheen at the same time. The surface is very tacky also. I agree I think I am going to like it a little better than a typical polish. I will let you know how it does. Thanks for the reply.

These compounds, Rough Buff & Step 2, are more like ultra aggressive polishes. They smooth out the underlying surface very quickly and very aggressively and then they add a small dose of polish. Normal abrasive polishes, like Brunswick Factory Finish High gloss polish and Storm's Xtra Shine, have abrasives in the polish, but their main job is polish. They do smooth the surface but not as much nor as aggressively as RB and Step 2.

Plus one to both Charlest and Notclay's comments. I use Rough Buff and Step 2 and Step 3 in my shop for myself and my customers. I had to hit my 607Ase with Rough Buff to get it to read a little earlier. It was waaayy too long on my house shot and had a lot of over/under. Hit it with a towel that had Rough Buff on it, residue from other balls and buffed that in pretty good on the spinner. Worked like a champ. 607 still goes long but doesn't seem so skittish in the oil or wiggle down the lane. Good products, SLP, I think you will be fine and happy!
