I'm taking the plunge and ordering a spinner. I need some help compiling a list of supplies I'll need.

My list so far is...

No offense but -
I'm afraid someone is going to have to drag you, obviously kicking and screaming, into the 20th century (forget about the 21st century!).

Companies are in business to make a profit on EVERYTHING they sell. Most catalog/internet companies have either a minimum delivery AND HANDLING charge or a minimum ordering amount. The bottom line is they can't have several someones service your order, which usually takes anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes for very simple orders, and make $1.00 on the whole deal.

$8.75 is not for shipping but for shipping AND HANDLING. That handling charge only makes up slightly for the low profit on the one pad you'd like. They'd probably still wind up losing money on your order.

Sorry, but that's the picture as I see it.

When I want one of something like that, I either accept their price, wait till I want several items they're selling or get a bunch of friends together to buy enough to save money on the total order.

Check your local Lowe's, Home Depot or large chain auto supply stores. Many of these are jus beginning to get Abralon pads as a regular item. It depends on your area and the demand.

I tried the Lowes here and they don't carry Abralon. The guy in the paint department didn't look like I had asked for anything too weird, just said that the only abrasives they have were what was on the aisle there. They had green Scotchbrite (who doesn't?) and two different dark grey pads that are supposed to replace 0 and 00 steel wool. I don't know what the grits are supposed to be for those, if those are the "grey pads", or if they're appropriate for bowling balls.

I'm going to try other regular hardware stores and auto shops around here, but Lowes was a bust for more than green Scotchbrite.

I went to my local small town body shop where they do all the paint for the whole area. I asked the guy if he had any used abralon pads? He said he never heard of them. They only used paper. I told him about the pads and how to get them and he said thanks.

I guess us bowlers know more about abralon pads than most body shops......

The shipping is high, if you only order 1-5 at a time. I order several boxes of 25 and it's a deal for me to pay only that, boxes weigh about 6-8 lbs when I get them, so it all works out in the end, for them anyway.
