Particle Polish?

Anybody out there polish the Hammer Big Deal? I'm looking to get more length out of my ball, and tried using the Ebonite Particle Polish, but that gives me too much length. I'm looking for a reaction that is in between. If you did polish the Big Deal or a ball with similar low load particle coverstock, what polish did you use. Also, has anybody tried sanding the ball to higher grit than the OOB 1000 grit?

Did you give the polished version a chance to develop a track?  That could help tame the excessive length.  Or do what Lanemasters does with their slightly polished finishes: Hit it with a scotchbrite pad (grey? white? green?) very lightly after polishing.  Knocks some of the glossiness off without completely removing the polish.

But really, taking it higher than 1000-grit seems like the best choice to me.  1500-grit should give at least a few feet without making it skate on spotty backends.

You could look into using Ebonite Matte finish compound.  I believe this is around 1200 grit sheen ending... for me, that seems to fit between dull surface and one shined with particle polish.
