Ball or Surface for cary down.
« on: January 21, 2013, 09:18:27 PM »
I'm having a bit of an issue when I run into carry down.

During practice my Versa Max at 800 w/Rough Buff drilled with ping above ring finger, cg directly below towards middle of grip and it gets down the lane up 10 and has a monster strong back-end.

By the 3rd frame it's hitting like a marshmallow. I'll move a little right but after a few balls it's back to the same.

I can move in just a pinch with my Nexus Solid at 500 w/Rough Buff with pin below ring finger and cg right below that will get down the lane and finish strong, but mid 3rd game starts to slide as well.

I've had my Nexus Solid at 4000 and can stay roughly where I started all night in the past but am finding the 500 w/ Rough Buff to be more versatile from house to house.

I run into this issue from time to time and really don't have a ball for medium heavy to heavy oil.  Any suggestions? Nexxus? Aura? 2000 or 4000?

I was telling a friend about something close to this I saw last week with a friends ball.

He asked me, carry down or roll out?

I had no really answer, so I too will be interested some thoughts that you receive.

Moving right like you are one strategy.  Tucking baby finger increases backend slightly also.

More differential.

Using balls with strong differential similar to what you are using or same ball that with the pin down has stopped hitting, pin above finger and mass bias remaining strong often starts working nice.

Others switch to pearl version of solid that has stopped hitting above and make the drilling changes above.

Those are some pretty strong balls with a matte finish. I really wonder if you're seeing (the results of) carrydown or if the midlane is just getting really dry, really fast. Not sure where you're playing and where everyone else is playing. If there are people using plastic or urethane in your league or in the league before yours, then it could be carrydown. But unless you're extremely speed dominant, I'm inclined to think these strong balls are burning up.

Also, there's that old bugaboo called "tweener hell": caught between strokers playing down and in and crankers playing much deeper. They could be burning some areas up and pushing oil left/right and changing your playing area.

When you see this next, try some strong pearl or polished solid that has a strongish backend. If that retains energy, it's getting too dry. It that also skids, check some other areas of the lane for a better reaction.

Thanks guys.

There are in fact some "new" bowlers who are trying to hook the ball with their plastic.  The old 2 finger spinner!.

I'll try the suggestions.

Thanks
