i wouldnt suggest micro-fiber as the fibers catch most of the polish and it doesnt touch the ball. really the only disadvantage there is that you will be wasting product.
also using the towel or the back of abralon produces the same results. the advantage of using a towel is that you can use your favorite polish and just keep wetting it for each polishing session and just adding a little bit of polish, thus using all of the polish up each time instead of wasting it. its what a good pro-shop does, uses one polish and one polish "rag" over and over again till it looks soaked or covered in polish.

really all that I use is my preferred gritless polish, abralon pads as well as scotchbrite pads. then all you need is a good spray bottle to fill with water. that should cover 95% of what most people at home will use a spinner for.
your choices may vary from mine as you might have a certain finish your trying to replicate.
and one piece of advice is that if your using abralon to bring the surface grit up in number or finishing the surface dont spend much time or use much pressure as abralon cuts the bowling balls surface very quickly and you dont want to smooth out the surface too much (unless you really wanna see the ball skid)

scotchbrite pads last longer and and are cheaper so you can use them to scuff the ball up easily. but are not as uniform and dont vary in grit like abralon does. so what makes abralon better is that you can have a ball skid thru the fronts easily but still read the midlane without needing polish or causing your bal to react too quickly off of friction. plus theres more options such as 2000, 2000 polished, 2000 light polish, 4000, etc etc etc.
scotchbrite comes in maroon (400 US), green (600 US), grey (800 US), and if you can find gold (somewhere around 1000????) or blue (1000???)
really all i use is grey scotchbrite, just grey for 800 grit dull or what i use it for most is to replicate 1500 grit polished ----> (grey pad then a gritless polish = ~1600 grit polished)

therefore you would need a 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 abralon pad and a gritless polish. ebonites factory finish is good and is the only company (or other companies that it ebonite owns) that i can think of that has balls coming from the factory at 4000 polished.

Some of the manufacturers are now using 500 abralon followed by the desired grit (1000, 2000, 4000). For me, this method works much better, I see much better results by following this formula
