Bean's Secret Sauce
« on: November 07, 2011, 01:29:59 AM »
I have heard a lot about this so I decided to buy a bottle.

I read some reviews where they use too much and it just makes the ball slide.

Now I have a teammate's ball he needs polished (Storm Hy-Road). OOB on that is 1500/polished. I don't want to mess him up, but I'm thinking to go 1000K with just a few drops of the sauce.

Anyone have a different idea?

I am with NotClay on this one. I have used the Secret Sauce exclusively for the last two years, and it works best with balls that you've prepped with surface underneath, first. I have gone a bit further with my surface preps however, since I'v e gone with a couple of balls 800 and lower, and then added the sauce. It is great stuff!

Is Beans' Sauce an abrasive polish/compound or is it non-abrasive like Magic Shine?

I believe it has "micro-abrasives".  I've had success with 1000 and 2000 grit underneath the sauce.  It's great stuff and just a little goes a long way!  Never wash your polish rags with sauce on them either, just a few sprays of water and you can polish some more gear.

Love the sauce!! Starting point for best results (for me) is at 400 grit!

How does Secret Sauce compare to UFO?

results of my experiment:

My teammates ball- I took it to 500 grit with the polish. He was able to play a little more down and in, but it took a hard left when it hit the dry. Just blew up the pins.

I took my Big Curve and put it at 1000g with the polish ( I'm normally at 4000 with normal polish) and shot 765 (6 10 ten pins and a 7 pin) All crushed the pocket. I stood just three boards left of where I normally stand and threw it over 15 to about 10. This stuff is pretty amazing. The ball breezed through then took a punishing arrow to the pocket.

Does anyone know how often this should be maintained with Bean's?

How often will depend on how much friction you are seeing. The more friction, the faster it will burn the polish off. Just keep an eye on the cover. As it starts getting dull, or the ball doesn't push through the heads, then start again. Sometimes you can just add a little Sauce over what you have, while others you may want to take it back to 1000 then re-do the whole ball from scratch.
I prefer the latter because by taking the ball down (1000 or so) it also kinda' wakes up the cover and reaction should stay strong.

Just to chime in on the sauce.  I used it on my Mission X with OOB surface.  It really saved me from only having a ball I could use on very heavy oil patterns.  The Sauce is a great polish.

I recently used the Sauce on the Primal. Prior to using the Sauce, I've worked the shell to 4K with UFO and bowled 2 1/2 games with it. The Primal was skipping the spot being a little over/under, so just for the hell of it (guessing), I slapped on the Sauce the next time out with this ball. (I went with my prior experience with the sauce. I've used the Sauce on my Jazz for 2 seasons that had 1k below, and it was the best match up on newer synthetic lanes). The Primal was magical going down the lane, picking up revs on the midlane (what this core does), and rolling through the pins powerfully.

These days, I use mostly Valentino products. Right now, the UFO over the 2k surface is working really well on the same ball, the JAZZ.

how does "secret sauce" compare to Track's "magic shine'' -- the magic shine seems to work very well.
