What type of coverstock prep and drilling do you use for playing down and in?

Oil pattern? Rev rate? Ball speed? Axis tilt? 2 board? 5 board? 7 board?

i am able to use every ball in my arsenal for a down and in shot. i want to be able to use every one of them for a down and in shot. why ? it depends on how much oil there is in the heads because i'm going to use my "a" release----appx. 20 degrees of axis rotation. basically an end-over-end roll. it all depends upon the friction available----either from the lane or the ball.

It really depends on multiple things - for me, my sanded particle XXcel can be a down-and-in ball on heavy and long patterns, while my polished uretahne Slate Blue Gargoyle on the other side of the spectrum can be played on the same line on light to dry shots.
On a THS, a higher RG ball with medium or less flare, polished or finely sanded surface shoueld be enough. But there are so many factors involved, including your style, that no real recommendation can be given at this point, sorry.

I use 4000 grit sanding, plus Track's Delayed Reaction, plus a high gloss polish. Most times the outside is so dry, I still can't play a down and in shot, but that finish enables me to have to swing it a lot less.

I wasn't really looking for any recommendations. I was just curious what others used and how they were set up. Personally, I like to use balls sanded at 2000 abralon with the pin above the fingers. I think I am going to drill a ball with the pin below the middle finger to see how that works.

I'll throw down and in when I get frustrated & everything I'm doing isn't working.  I'll pick up my polyester Storm Logo viz a ball & wing it for fun.  My team mates laugh, I loosen up & then I'm back on track w/my next shot.  I know that really wasn't what you're asking but I couldn't resist.  Good luck.
